Overview:
The Preschool Classroom Assistant (“assistant”) will be responsible for adhering to all training and instructional requirements of the Medford School District, the Department of Education (DOE), and the Department of Children and Families (DCF). The position will fall under the general supervision of the YMCA of the Pines’ Preschool Director, but will also be monitored and supported by instructional, administrative, and support staff from within the Medford School District. The assistant will be responsible for supporting student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through the implementation of district approved curriculum; documentation of student progress, activities, and outcomes; and the creation of a student-centered learning environment.
This position is part of a partnership between the YMCA of the Pines and the Medford School District.
This is a school-year position dependent on the Medford School District calendar. The schedule is 8:30am - 3:45 pm and include monthly staff meetings following the tradition workday and attendance at evening events throughout the school year.
Responsibilities:
- Support the classroom teacher in implementing curriculum consistent with goals and objectives of YMCA of the Pines and the Medford School District;

Maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom;

Assist in evaluating pupils’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports and student evaluations;

Maintain professional competence and continuous improvement through in-service education activities provided by YMCA of the Pines and Medford School District, performance evaluations, and selected professional growth activities as described in individual professional improvement plans and other relevant education opportunities;

Maintain the health and safety of all pupils, including, but not limited to: application of basic first aid, support with diapering and toileting, and assistance with general health and hygiene;

Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day;

Uphold and enforce program rules and DCF requirements; and

Perform such other tasks and assigned

Any mistreatment or abuse by an employee or volunteer will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment or volunteer service and cooperation with law enforcement.

Employees and volunteers shall cooperate with any external investigation by outside authorities or internal investigation conducted by the organization or persons given investigative authority by the organization.
An employee or volunteer’s failure to cooperate with an investigation will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment or dismissal from the organization.
Qualifications:
- Ability to pass multiple background check

General knowledge of preschool developmental milestones;

Ability to pass state and YMCA mandated training programs;

Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed;

Ability to organize and coordinate work;

Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents;

Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth;

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work; and
