Job Summary
Join our dynamic team as a Heavy Equipment & Truck Mechanic, where you'll be at the forefront of maintaining and repairing a wide range of heavy-duty machinery and trucks. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with newer equipment, including excavators, forklifts, wheel loaders, mining/screening equipment and tractor-trailers of various types ensuring optimal performance and safety across our operations.
We are currently seeking an individual to help with the maintenance of equipment & trucks that Mountain States Operates. Currently the owners themselves maintain all of this equipment, however with current company growth, there’s becoming too much to maintain in addition to their other duties.
This position will be 40-45 hours a week.
You will be working “in the field”, NOT in a shop & will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of units from small-fleet trucks to class 8 trucks/trailers, heavy-construction equipment and rock-screening equipment. We currently do not have a shop, however we do have large concrete-slab with a reefer that has all tooling for working on the trucks. The equipment is generally at in the field. A company service-truck will be provided.
Mountain States can provide all speciality-tooling required for the job.
The primary function of this Job will be Preventive Maintenance, (i.e. oil changes, grease, R&R wear-parts, some fabrication, etc) This is NOT a “lube’’ position.
Candidate will regularly work with the owners of the company for maintenance schedules and daily activities.
Duties
- Diagnose and repair complex mechanical issues on heavy equipment such as excavators, wheel loaders, forklifts, and tractor-trailers using OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) specifications and schematics.
- Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, brake repairs, transmission servicing, hydraulic system repairs, suspension adjustments, and air brake inspections to ensure equipment safety and efficiency.
- Fabricate custom parts or modifications using welding, soldering, cutting torches and power tools to meet specific operational needs.
- Conduct electrical diagnostics on heavy machinery and truck/tractors to troubleshoot wiring issues or electronic component failures.
- Utilize hand tools and diagnostic software to interpret schematics and identify faults accurately.
- Replace tires, on trucks on an emergency bases only.
- Maintain detailed service records, complete inspection reports, and ensure compliance with safety standards at all times.
- Maintain parts and filter inventory.
- Fueling equipment when needed.
Experience & Requirements (Must have at least 3 years of Heavy Diesel experience)
- Proven mechanic experience or industrial equipment maintenance is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Caterpillar (CAT), OEM parts, hydraulics, HVAC systems in heavy machinery, and diesel engine repair.
- Strong knowledge of Kenworth Trucks, Kenworth OEM parts, PACCAR systems & various trailer systems.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems related to class-8 trucks & trailers along with equipment hydraulic knowledge.
- Hands-on experience with fabrication techniques including welding and soldering for equipment assembly or repair modifications.
- Familiarity with schematics interpretation for electrical systems in heavy machinery and automotive diagnostics.
- Experience working with excavators, wheel loaders, forklifts, tractor-trailers, and other industrial equipment is a plus.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently during maintenance or repair procedures.
- Must have a clean driving record as you will be driving a company provided service-truck.
- Must be able to pass a Pre-Employment drug test & Background check.

Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
