About the Role
We are looking for motivated science or social science people — undergraduate or postgraduate students welcome — located in Los Angeles, California with a desire to gain experience at the intersection of building engineering, environmental sustainability, public health, and customer service.
This role has two independent workstreams. On the logistics side, you’ll support Poppy’s operations — managing field equipment, preparing kits, and coordinating shipments on an as-needed basis. On the field side, you’ll travel to customer sites across the U.S. to conduct building assessments, with travel becoming an increasingly significant part of the role as our project volume grows.
About You
You are an excellent communicator with extreme accountability and a knack for paying attention to detail, who’s looking for hands-on, contract-based experience at the earliest stage of a tech/biotech startup. You deliver high-quality work when you say you will, and are eager to take ownership of logistics and field work projects from start to finish.
Your availability is flexible. This is a project-based contract role with peaks and valleys — there are genuinely busy stretches and slower ones. This works best for people who thrive in a dynamic environment and welcome contract work that shifts with project demand. A valid passport and willingness to travel across the U.S. is required.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare, pack and ship Poppy kits to customers and partners
- Manage and organize Poppy field equipment inventory
- Perform quality control inspections on Poppy hardware products
- Travel to customer sites to collect information about their building’s HVAC, occupancy, and conduct airflow test projects
- Work with Poppy’s teams to plan and execute airflow tests
- Attend training sessions and conduct independent trials to ensure accuracy and guarantee success prior to deploying at a customer site
- Learn and closely follow established protocols for data collection
- Interact with customers and act as a liaison on behalf of Poppy Health
- Collaborate in a team environment to provide the best Poppy experience
What You Need
- Academic and/or professional background in following precise protocols, e.g. science, social science, engineering, nursing, environmental testing, architecture, or public health
- Previous experience in customer service or a public-facing role
- Excellent time management skills, verbal communication skills, and attention to detail
- Know the importance of following protocols and making logical judgment calls
- Willingness to adapt and improvise as necessary
- Valid passport and willingness to travel across the U.S.
Bonus Points For
- Background in HVAC, architecture and the built environment, or sustainability engineering
- Valid driver’s license & car (not required if Uber/Lyft is available in your area)
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically for work
