The Transportation Coordinator (Broker-Focused) is responsible for managing daily freight operations while also taking on responsibilities typically associated with a freight broker. This role includes coordinating shipments, sourcing reliable carriers, negotiating rates, ensuring timely delivery, and maintaining strong relationships with both internal teams and external logistics partners.
Pay: Base Salary $50-$60,000.00 plus commission
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Schedule and coordinate inbound and outbound freight across multiple transportation modes (e.g., FTL, LTL, intermodal)
- Source and secure third-party carriers to meet shipping needs and deadlines
- Negotiate freight rates and confirm carrier availability and capacity
- Monitor shipment status and proactively resolve delays or service issues
- Ensure all documentation (BOLs, PODs, rate confirmations) is completed and accurate
- Maintain carrier and load information in transportation management systems (TMS)
- Track, trace, and communicate shipment updates to internal and external stakeholders
- Build and maintain relationships with shippers, carriers, and 3PL partners
- Analyze freight spend, optimize routing, and identify cost-saving opportunities
- Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and company policies
Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or Business preferred
- 2+ years of experience in transportation coordination, freight brokerage, or dispatching
- Familiarity with TMS software and load boards (e.g., DAT, Truckstop)
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong understanding of freight operations, carrier networks, and DOT regulations
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and logistics-related platforms
- Existing relationships with regional or national carriers
- Experience working in a brokerage or 3PL environment
