Job Summary
This position works closely with the Surf Therapy Camp Coordinator and collaborates with the Logistics and Special Events Coordinator to support surf camp operations. Most activities are held outside on the beach, in public settings and/or near bodies of water.
This position is responsible for providing in-water safety leadership, guidance, and lifeguard duties during 2026 Surf Therapy Camps and providing on-land surf instruction training to volunteers and athletes.
Responsibilities
- Provide on-land surf instruction at surf camps located in San Diego County.
- Provide lifeguard support in the ocean during surf sessions.
- Maintain primary responsibility for participant safety in the water.
- Support volunteers and athletes with water safety protocols and best practices.
- Assist with loading and unloading event equipment on camp days as needed.
- Assist in rinsing and maintaining boards and wetsuits during camp operations.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incident reports, and safety equipment inventory.
- Identify and report any supplies requiring restocking, and provide regular updates to the Lead Coordinator.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- First Aid / CPR Certification.
- Ocean lifeguard certification.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Clean driving record with DMV printout.
- Fingerprint background check.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift, squat, walk, bend, and carry 50+ pounds of equipment.
- Experience with surf instruction.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment while maintaining high standards of safety protocol adherence.
- Compassion for working with children overcoming trauma.
- Mandated child abuse reporter certification (upon hire, provided by US4K).
- Communicates effectively with supervisors, coworkers, volunteers, and youth participants while maintaining professionalism, respect, and accountability.
Special Requirements:
Some evening and mostly weekend hours required: Often Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Days vary but are primarily aligned with scheduled Surf Therapy Camps between March and October 2026.
