Job Summary
Position hours are 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Job requires good classroom management, warm and nurturing disposition, and knowledge of TK-2nd grade curriculum (CA state standards). A teaching credential is not required, but 2+ years of experience in teaching TK-2nd grade aged children is required. We are a year-round program but shift to a summer camp model June to early August. Under the direction and supervision of the program Director, Head of Elementary (Associate Director), and Lead teacher, an Elementary Co-teacher: supports the process to plan, implement, monitor, and assess a classroom instructional program within our TK-5th grade program. Shared teaching duties across all curriculum.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (may include, but not limited to the following)
· Assist in planning, implementing, monitoring, and assessing an Elementary instructional program consistent with Woodroe Woods School goals and philosophies, and specific objectives based on California state standards and assessment of individual student needs.
· Collaborate with a team of teachers and Head of Elementary/ Associate Director.
· Assist in teaching students reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, and physical education, and other appropriate learning activities (including those taking place in after-school care).
· Instruct students in citizenship via Character Strong curriculum and specified rules/procedures provided under Woodroe Woods School leadership.
· Support and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom; support and assist in maintaining Woodroe Woods School’s discipline policy.
· Identify students’ needs and cooperate/ collaborate with other staff members in assessing and helping students with social-emotional and/or learning problems.
· Participate in curricular and extra-curricular school programs, assessment and development activities, parent/ teacher conferences, department and whole school meetings.
· Communicate regularly with parents regarding goals and objectives of the instructional program, student progress observed, behavioral needs or problems, and to relay special accomplishments.
· Represent Woodroe Woods School in a professional manor during all school events and when out in the local community.
· Provide instruction to students with special needs in accordance with Woodroe Woods Student Support Plans (similar to public school IEPs) utilizing support services as appropriate; participate in SSP meetings as appropriate.
· Perform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
-Principals, theories, philosophies, practices, methods, and techniques used in Early Education/ Elementary curriculum development and classroom instruction.
-Classroom procedures which promote appropriate student conduct, engaged learning, and creative exploration while working toward educational goals and standards.
-Child guidance principles and practices.
-Interpersonal skills using tactful communication, patience, teamwork, and courtesy.
-Applicable sections of the State Education Code and other applicable laws.
-Research Methods and report writing techniques.
-Current trends and research concerning the growth and development of young children.
Ability to:
-Support curriculum plans and activities to meet diverse needs, learning for multiple skill levels.
-Support an instructional program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth in a play-based manner.
-Establish effective rapport with students, their families, and co-workers.
-Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for education, in accordance with each child’s ability.
-Monitor children- safety indoors and outdoors must be maintained.
-Use good judgment in making decisions and re-directing challenging behaviors.
-Maintain professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and supervising staff members.
-Communicate effectively both orally and in writing, including report cards and incident/injury reports. Basic computer and email skills are required.
-Maintain acceptable standards of physical health, energy, and emotional adjustment to the job environment. Always use appropriate tone and language.
-Maintain consistent, punctual, and regular attendance.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Starting hourly rate is based on education and experience- refer to posted 12-month salary range.

*PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree, including courses needed to meet credential requirements and student teaching classroom experience. Minimum 2 years of classroom teaching experience in TK-2nd grade program.
