Multi-Trade Mechanical Technician
NEW Hydraulics | Oshkosh and Menasha, Wisconsin
Employment: Full-time preferred; part-time may be considered
Pay: Based on experience; compensation range $25-$35 per hour plus benefits
Business hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
Build a Career Across Multiple Trades
At NEW Hydraulics, no two days are exactly alike.
We are looking for a mechanically inclined problem-solver who enjoys variety, learns quickly, and takes ownership of their work.
One day, you may install or troubleshoot a snowplow. The next, you may fabricate a hydraulic hose, reproduce a discontinued part, assist with tube bending or fabrication, repair equipment, organize inventory, or help with a special project.
This is not a repetitive production job or a narrowly defined single-trade position. It is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys learning how things work and building a broad range of practical skills.
What You’ll Do
Your responsibilities will vary based on your experience, interests, the season, and current shop needs.
Work may include:
- Installing, maintaining, and repairing snowplows, spreaders, snowblowers, and related equipment
- Diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, and basic 12-volt electrical problems
- Fabricating hydraulic hose assemblies and assisting with tube bending, reverse engineering, fabrication, assembly, and production work
- Helping customers identify hoses, fittings, adapters, parts, and practical repair solutions
- Using and maintaining hand tools, power tools, shop machinery, and material-handling equipment
- Organizing shop, yard, parts, and inventory areas and performing general facility maintenance
- Assisting with occasional local projects and supporting teammates as priorities change
Snow-equipment work is more prominent during the fall and winter, while hydraulic work, fabrication, production, maintenance, and project work continue year-round.
Who We’re Looking For
A strong candidate:
- Has good mechanical aptitude and enjoys figuring out how equipment works
- Is interested in learning multiple trades and handling varied assignments
- Can work independently while also supporting a small team
- Is dependable, organized, safety-minded, and follows through
- Communicates well and treats customers, coworkers, tools, and property with respect
- Takes pride in quality work and looks for practical solutions
- Is willing to ask questions and learn unfamiliar skills
Formal certifications are helpful but not required. Reliability, attitude, integrity, problem-solving ability, and willingness to learn matter more than having the perfect résumé.
Helpful Experience
Experience in any of the following areas is useful, but we do not expect one person to have experience in all of them:
- Automotive, agricultural, construction, truck, or industrial equipment repair
- Hydraulics, hose fabrication, tube bending, or fluid-line work
- Snowplow installation, 12-volt electrical diagnosis, or truck accessories
- Welding, brazing, machining, fabrication, or reading technical drawings
- Reverse engineering, equipment maintenance, or reproducing parts from samples
- Forklift, skid-steer, warehouse, inventory, parts-counter, farm, vehicle, or other hands-on experience
Beginners with strong mechanical ability and the right attitude are encouraged to apply. On-the-job training is provided.
Schedule and Work Environment
NEW Hydraulics is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
A typical five-day employee schedule is approximately 7:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., including a half-hour unpaid lunch. Four 10-hour days may also be available when the arrangement works for the employee, the position, and company needs.
Weekend work is not routinely required. Optional weekend hours may occasionally be available.
We use a flexible, trust-based break system. Breaks are paid, and employees are expected to use this flexibility responsibly while remaining productive and supporting the team.
The position may involve work at both our Oshkosh and Menasha facilities.
Our shop is climate controlled, with air conditioning during the summer and in-floor and forced-air heat during the winter.
Compensation and Benefits
In addition to the agreed hourly wage, NEW Hydraulics provides compensation supplements intended to help employees fund time away from work, insurance expenses, and retirement savings.
Time-Off Compensation
Full-time employees receive an approximately 11% wage supplement intended to fund up to five weeks away from work each year.
Rather than using a traditional accrued paid-time-off system, this compensation is included with regular wages. Employees are responsible for setting aside the funds they will need when taking time away from work.
Health-Benefit Compensation
Employees receive an additional 7% wage supplement that may be used toward health, dental, vision, prescription, or other personal insurance expenses.
Retirement Compensation
Employees receive an additional 3% wage supplement intended for retirement savings. Employees may select their own retirement arrangement, such as a traditional or Roth IRA.
Additional Benefits
- Quarterly profit-sharing bonuses and regular wage reviews
- Flexible scheduling, on-the-job training, and cross-training
- Support for continuing education and relevant certifications
- Company-provided tools, shirts, PPE, and clothing allowance
- Climate-controlled shop and fully equipped break room
- Company events, annual outings, and opportunities for increased responsibility
