Wesley Preschool Teacher Description
Position: Teacher in the Wesley Preschool program
Purpose: Teaching young children in a Christian environment in ways
Appropriate to their age and developmental needs
Skills: Relates to children, parents and other adults in an effective, friendly manner.
Effectively plan for children’s day using best practices and
guidelines set forth by licensing
Knowledgeable about child development and best practices in early childhood education
Training: Early Childhood degree or 4 year degree with related experience, ability to retain status as teacher within one year of hire
Duties: 1. Develop and implement daily lesson plans using the curriculum guide and resources provided by the school. The written plans are to be posted for parents to see and should be turned in the week prior to the director.
2. Coordinate plans for special events for individual classroom.
3. Work cooperatively with a teacher assistant and direct work as assigned by you.
4. Attend professional development to meet the required hours for delacare licensing.
5. Attend staff meetings, parent nights, special events as needed.
6. Perform individual assessments for each child in your class. Meet with parents at parent conferences.
7. Be supportive and encourage all aspects of the program and other staff members.
8. Maintain classroom in good order for church/school use.
9. Keep families involved and updated in their child’s needs, performance and any changes that may occur during the school year.
10. Maintain inventory of classroom supplies and materials. Submit supply requisitions as needed to the director.
11. Participate in curriculum planning and evaluation updates for age level program.
12. Additional duties may apply based on need and benefit to the overall program.
13. Attend to children’s specific needs; including nose wiping, toileting and diaper changes.
14. Be familiar with, adhere to and implement regulations and guidelines found in Delacare.
