Pineland BHDD is seeking a compassionate and motivated Peer Specialist to support individuals on their recovery journey. In this role, you will use your lived experience to inspire hope, build connections, and empower individuals receiving mental health and/or substance use services to achieve their personal recovery goals.
The Peer Specialist provides peer support, advocacy, and recovery-focused services to individuals in outpatient and community settings. As a role model for recovery and resiliency, you will help individuals build confidence, strengthen coping skills, access resources, and become more engaged in their communities.
What You'll Do
Peer Support & Recovery Services
- Provide one-on-one peer support to individuals receiving behavioral health services
- Share recovery tools, coping strategies, and personal experiences to foster hope and resilience
- Lead recovery groups, self-help sessions, and recovery-focused discussions
- Help individuals identify strengths, goals, and pathways toward greater independence
- Support individuals in developing self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-advocacy skills
Advocacy & Community Support
- Serve as an advocate for individuals within the agency and throughout the community
- Assist individuals in understanding and exercising their rights
- Help connect individuals to community resources such as housing, healthcare, employment supports, benefits, and recovery programs
Collaboration & Team Participation
- Participate in treatment team meetings and recovery planning activities
- Communicate observations and concerns regarding an individual's progress
- Assist with transportation and community-based activities when needed
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation
- Follow confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
- Stay informed on recovery-oriented practices and current trends in behavioral health services
- Serve as a positive role model for recovery and community living
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- One (1) year of experience in advocacy, advisory, governance, or related activities
- At least one (1) continuous year as a current or former recipient of mental health and/or substance use treatment services
- Eligible for certification as a Georgia Certified Peer Specialist
- Certification is preferred

- Community-based role with travel throughout the service area
- Requires work in various settings including offices, homes, and community locations
- Drug-free workplace; pre-employment screening required
- Some travel between Pineland BHDD locations may be required
