American Rooter & Drain is hiring an Underground Lead to run excavation operations that support our plumbing and drain installation work. You'll lead a small crew, operate excavation equipment, and make sure every job is done safely, on spec, and to code.
American Rooter & Drain is your number one source for residential and commercial drain, heating & air, plumbing, sewer, and electrical services. We are a veteran owned company and we’re growing every day. We house all of our own trucks, vans, and excavation equipment to perform all the work that our customers need. The company provides an atmosphere where the employees can continue their education, have regular training and leisure activities, allowing for an optimal working environment. Our mission is to provide and create an experience that is unmatched by any other competitor.
Your day starts in the field with a plan and a crew. You'll lead 1 to 3 Apprentices or Laborers, keep excavation work moving, and ensure trenching, tunneling, and site prep are done safely and on schedule.
You'll operate mini-excavators and trenchers, check depths, slopes, alignment, and bedding, and make sure every job meets code and spec before backfill and cleanup. You'll coordinate with dispatchers, technicians, and field supervisors to keep work on track and customers confident.
This is hands-on outdoor work in all weather. You'll be on your feet around machinery, mud, vibration, and underground utilities. If you lead from the front and help Apprentices improve, you'll earn respect here.
Our hiring process is rigorous, but we move fast for the right person. You could be hired in as little as 10 days. Because we've had strong interest, the first steps are automated so you can be considered quickly.
If you apply, we will respond to 100% of applicants.

This role includes 100% covered health, dental, and vision insurance. You'll get the tools you need, ongoing training and development, weekly team support, and mentorship to help you grow with confidence.
This role is not a fit if you cut corners, ignore safety, show up late, or struggle with direct communication. It is a fit if honesty, transparency, promptness, reliability, and customer confidence matter to you.
We want work done right, crews led well, and customers to trust what they see on-site. If that matches your standards, you'll fit here.
You'll likely do well here if you bring order to a messy jobsite, take pride in solid excavation work, and handle safety and quality without being chased.
