We are looking for a reliable and heart centered Medical Assistant to support our psychiatric team in providing care for persons and their families, who are doing the hardest thing - reaching out for help when vulnerable, in a professional and considerate manner. You will work under the supervision of our Lead Nurse and collaborate with our Psychiatrists and Psychiatric APNs. Medical Assistant professionals must be first and foremost qualified and compassionate. The ideal candidate will be providing trauma informed diverse basic care to individuals and families presenting with trauma, anxiety, depression or co-occuring challenges while remaining patient and calm. It is a demanding job but also very rewarding.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and support the appropriate scheduling of the psychiatric team members
- Provide pre authorization support to ensure medication coverage for clients
- Respond to client calls and requests for refill, scheduling or medication questions under the supervision of the prescribers
- Record a patient’s medical history accurately
- Take and record measurements of blood pressure, temperature, heart rate etc.
- Observe patients under treatment to identify progress, side-effects of medications etc.
- Collect samples for lab testing as assigned
- Provide emotional and psychological support when needed
- Communicate with patients’ family or friends to provide advice, comfort and release instructions
Skills
- Experience as a Medical Assistant preferred
- Ability to undertake a variety of diverse care tasks and work in a multidisciplinary team
- Understanding of HIPAA confidentiality obligations and best practices
- Excellent knowledge of medical and hospital terminology
- Good knowledge of MS Office and data entry
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Compassionate and able to handle stress
- Appreciate the importance of trauma informed, client centered humanistic care
- Successful completion of Medical Assistant certification program is a must
