Position Description
The pianist works closely with the Director of Music Ministry and Pastor to provide music for worship services, including hymns, service music, and accompanying a variety of music ensembles. The pianist accompanies various music ensembles during worship and participates in scheduled rehearsals, including Wednesday evening rehearsals and rehearsals following Sunday worship services. This position collaborates with the Director of Music Ministry to prepare and support musicians of all ages and skill levels, helping ensembles and individuals feel confident and prepared to participate in worship.

Music is utilized to enhance, enrich and add depth to the worship and faith life of EPUMC through collaboration with staff and nurturing the talents of the congregation.
Objectives
- Support and strengthen the EPUMC music ministry by providing skilled and engaging piano and organ accompaniment for worship services, music ensembles, and rehearsals, with the purpose of enriching and enhancing the worship experience. Staff member will have a positive influence on the confidence, participation, and growth of musicians and music teams while contributing to a welcoming and meaningful worship environment.
- Collaborate with Pastor and Director of Music Ministries to develop services and integrate congregational songs and special music to enhance the service. We anticipate a team member spirit for the growth in faith journeys and working with other staff.
- Maintain and build relationships with the Pastor and Music Director through current programming, as well as communicate regarding rehearsal planning, music preparation such that I am strengthening relationships with and building the skills of others.
- Communicate with the Pastor, Director of Music Ministry, and other staff for needs to perform ministry.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Knowledge of music theory and a range of worship music styles including classic hymns, contemporary music, and more
- Ability to participate with vocal and instrumental ensembles
- A strong, growing faith in Jesus that is expressed in an inclusive manner
- Degree in Music or 5 years of experience
- Experience in accompanying church services and choirs
- Ideal candidate will play piano and ability to accompany congregation and choir
Preferred:
- Proficiency in organ performance and the ability to provide organ accompaniment for worship services.
Possibility:
- Knowledge and experience with other instruments such as guitar, etc
- Demonstrated ability to network and develop relationships
- Ability to express ideas clearly in both written and oral communications
- Work under stress
Evaluation
The Music Director will meet regularly with the accompanist. The appointed pastor to review performance toward these outcomes and fit within the organizational structure of EPUMC, to include:
- Intermediate adjustments to outcomes and / or goals as necessary and prudent to accomplish the music ministry
If performance or organizational issues arise, the Staff Parish Relations Team will assist the appointed pastor and the Director of Music Ministry in creating and executing a performance improvement plan with the Accompanist.
Salary range based on experience and negotiable. Range from $12,000-14,000, approximately 10 hours per week.
