N&S Waterproofing is seeking an experienced, skilled and personable Shop Manager to lead daily shop, yard, equipment, fleet, tool, and material operations. This person will keep crews supplied, equipment job-ready, inventory controlled, and the shop safe and orderly.
The ideal candidate has construction, fleet, equipment, warehouse, or maintenance-management experience and is comfortable leading people, solving problems quickly, and maintaining clear records.
Maintenance of equipment, light mechanic duties, small tool and engine knowledge a plus! Concrete construction knowledge helpful. Valid drivers license, reliable transportation
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Manage daily operations of the shop, yard, equipment, fleet, tools, materials, and storage areas.
- Supervise, train, schedule, and hold shop personnel accountable for productivity, safety, organization, and quality of work.
- Maintain preventative-maintenance schedules for trucks, trailers, forklifts, generators, compressors, shot blasters, grinders, vacuums, pumps, pressure washers, and other company equipment.
- Coordinate inspections, repairs, and outside service work to minimize equipment downtime.
- Inspect equipment before and after deployment; ensure equipment is clean, safe, operational, and properly loaded for upcoming work.
- Track repair history, maintenance records, mileage/hours, service intervals, warranties, and equipment status.
- Maintain accurate inventory of tools, consumables, spare parts, PPE, waterproofing materials, coatings, abrasives, and shop supplies.
- Establish and enforce check-out/check-in procedures for tools, equipment, keys, fuel cards, and company assets.
- Order parts, supplies, tools, and materials within approved purchasing procedures and budget limits.
- Receive deliveries; verify quantities and condition; organize and label materials for accurate inventory control.
- Coordinate daily with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and field crews regarding equipment, material, delivery, repair, and job-start needs.
- Keep the shop, yard, storage areas, and parking areas clean, organized, secure, and compliant with company safety standards.
- Conduct regular safety meetings, inspections, and documentation; enforce PPE, lockout/tagout, forklift, fuel-storage, and housekeeping requirements.
- Identify equipment replacement needs, repair-versus-replace decisions, and opportunities to reduce waste, loss, downtime, and unnecessary spending.
- Assist with loading, unloading, deliveries, equipment transport, and other shop-related duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in construction shop operations, fleet/equipment maintenance, warehouse management, equipment coordination, or a related leadership role.
- Working knowledge of construction tools, small engines, trailers, fleet vehicles, and jobsite equipment.
- Experience supervising employees and assigning daily work.
- Strong inventory-control, organization, and recordkeeping skills.
- Ability to prioritize competing needs and respond quickly to field emergencies.
- Basic computer ability, including email, spreadsheets, digital work orders, and inventory records.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to safely lift [50–75] pounds and work indoors and outdoors in changing weather conditions.
- Ability to pass drug screening
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting commercial waterproofing, concrete restoration, coatings, surface preparation, or general construction operations.
- Mechanical aptitude or hands-on experience repairing small engines, trucks, trailers, forklifts, generators, compressors, or surface-preparation equipment.
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
- Experience with purchasing, vendor negotiation, fleet records, and equipment-cost tracking.
- CDL or experience pulling equipment trailers.
- Bilingual English/Spanish communication ability.
