Position Overview
The Machines Inspector is responsible for conducting thorough pre-delivery and post-delivery inspections of scissor lifts and aerial work platforms to ensure all equipment meets company, customer, and regulatory standards. This role plays a critical part in maintaining safety, reliability, and compliance by identifying defects, documenting findings, and verifying proper operation before machines are placed into service or delivered to customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDI) on all incoming and outgoing machines, following manufacturer guidelines and company checklists.
- Verify the functionality of key systems including hydraulics, electrical, safety switches, control systems, and emergency lowering devices.
- Inspect for visible damage, wear, leaks, or missing components.
- Confirm machine specifications match order requirements (model, decals, manuals, accessories, etc.).
- Ensure proper installation of safety decals, manuals, and labeling.
- Conduct functional tests of lifting, lowering, and steering mechanisms.
- Record inspection results, deficiencies, and corrective actions in inspection logs.
- Communicate issues to the service/repair team for resolution.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, ANSI, and company safety standards.
- Keep inspection areas organized, clean, and compliant with safety procedures.
- Provide feedback to management on recurring issues to improve quality control.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/vocational training in mechanics or equipment maintenance preferred.
- 1–2 years’ experience inspecting, maintaining, or repairing heavy equipment, forklifts, aerial lifts, or similar machinery is strongly preferred.
- Prior experience in a PDI/QA inspection role in equipment rental, dealership, or manufacturing is strongly preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of machines systems (hydraulic, electrical, mechanical).
- Familiarity with OSHA and ANSI inspection standards for aerial work platforms.
- Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, wiring diagrams, and inspection checklists.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to spot defects or safety hazards.
- Basic computer/data entry skills to complete inspection reports.
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb, crouch, and work in tight spaces.
- Comfortable working at heights when testing lifts.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Working outside in a non-enviormentally controlled weather.
Job Type: Full-time
Base Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
