Medical Mutts Service Dogs is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Medical Coordinator & Technician for a part-time position of approximately 10 hours per week. This role combines hands-on animal care with medical coordination and record management to support the health and well-being of our rescue dogs, service dogs in training, and program dogs.
This position is ideal for someone with veterinary or animal care experience who enjoys both hands-on patient care and medical record management. The Medical Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring our dogs receive excellent medical care while supporting trainers, fosters, adopters, and veterinary partners.
Responsibilities
Medical Care
- Monitor the health and well-being of dogs in our care
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed
- Perform blood draws and assist with routine medical procedures
- Identify and report changes in health, behavior, or condition
- Support quarantine, preventive care, and biosecurity protocols
Medical Coordination
- Schedule and coordinate veterinary appointments
- Maintain accurate medical records and treatment logs
- Track vaccinations, preventives, testing, and medical follow-ups
- Communicate with veterinarians, trainers, fosters, and adopters regarding medical needs
- Manage medical inventory, supplies, and medication orders
Animal Care
- Provide hands-on, fear-free handling and restraint
- Maintain clean, organized kennel and treatment areas
- Support daily care routines as needed
- Contribute to a positive, team-oriented environment
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a veterinary clinic, animal shelter, rescue, or kennel setting
- Experience administering medications and performing basic veterinary procedures
- Comfortable with canine handling and fear-free techniques
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions
- Commitment to compassionate, humane animal care
Preferred Qualifications
- Veterinary assistant or veterinary technician experience
- Experience working with rescue dogs or behaviorally diverse populations
- Familiarity with shelter medicine, preventive care, and medical record systems
