JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Shredder Leadman, the Shredder Metal Sorter is an entry-level position that plays a crucial role in ensuring the separation of both objectionable and valuable materials from the shredder material stream. This position is responsible for manually separating copper and non-metallic materials such as rags, rubber, plastic, paper, and wood from the larger ferrous stream while maintaining a safe work environment. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, dependable, and comfortable working in a physically demanding industrial environment. This is a physically demanding, heavy industrial role requiring the ability to work safely in harsh production environments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Material Sorting & Production Support
· Sort materials from the conveyor throughout the workday.
· Assist with shredder production operations and supportive assignments during scheduled shutdowns.
· Assist with repairs during unforeseen breakdowns as requested.
· Learn proper shredder diesel start-up and shutdown procedures and assist as needed.
Equipment Maintenance & Cleaning
· Maintain a clean and safe work environment by cleaning the shredder area using shovels, scrapers, and brooms.
· Upon shutdown each day, assist with cleaning towers, ripple boxes, the mill, shaker pan, or conveyor lines.
· Inspect, clean, and perform light maintenance on machinery, conveyors, and the overall shredder area.
· Clean diesel air filters, inspect radiators, inspect skid steers, blow out air filters, and grease equipment daily.
Safety & Compliance
· Adhere to established safety standards and wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
· Report safety hazards and equipment issues promptly to supervisors.
· Maintain awareness of environmental and safety guidelines at all times.
Administrative & Other Duties
· Perform additional duties as assigned.
SCHEDULE & WORK CONDITIONS
· Regular schedule is 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
· At least one Saturday per month is required based on operational needs.
· Must be willing to work extended hours and varying shifts as needed.
· Position requires consistent availability to meet operational demands.
· Work is performed in indoor and outdoor industrial environments in varying weather conditions.
· Position requires work in wet, cold, hot, dusty, noisy, and physically demanding conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
· Strong commitment to safety.
· Strong attendance and reliability are required.
· Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Must consistently demonstrate respect for safety and environmental guidelines.
· Ability to identify different types of metals is beneficial.
· Previous experience in an industrial environment preferred but not required.
· Basic mechanical skills are a plus.
· High school diploma or GED preferred.
PHYSICAL & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
· Ability to lift and move materials up to 40 lbs.
· Ability to walk, climb, kneel, pull, twist, crawl, and work across catwalks, platforms, and elevated deck surfaces.
· Ability to tolerate heights and work within confined spaces.
· Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding work.
· Ability to work safely in environments with airborne particles, dust, chemicals, noise, and varying weather conditions.
· Must wear required PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility clothing, gloves, hearing protection, and safety-toed boots.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
