Position Overview
Matador AI is seeking an experienced Senior Performance Strategist II to serve as a Tier 2 strategic advisor for some of our largest and most complex dealership groups. This is a senior-level customer performance role designed for someone with extensive automotive retail experience who understands dealership operations, CRM workflows, variable operations, fixed operations, and customer lifecycle management.
As a Tier 2 strategist, you will work with dealership executives, General Managers, Dealer Principals, Sales Managers, BDC Directors, Service Directors, and ownership groups to improve dealership performance through process optimization, AI strategy, training, and operational consulting.
This position goes beyond account management. You will be expected to diagnose performance issues, build strategic action plans, mentor client success managers, and serve as an escalation resource for high-value accounts.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of enterprise and strategic automotive dealership accounts.
- Serve as the primary performance consultant for assigned dealerships.
- Conduct executive-level business reviews focused on ROI, performance trends, adoption, and operational improvements.
- Analyze dealership performance metrics including engagement rates, appointment conversion, response times, AI performance, CRM activity, retention campaigns, and customer communication.
- Identify process breakdowns within dealership sales, BDC, service, and customer follow-up operations.
- Develop customized performance improvement plans for each dealership.
- Review AI conversations, automation workflows, call performance, and customer journeys to ensure best practices are being followed.
- Lead onboarding, advanced training sessions, and quarterly strategic planning meetings.
- Partner with Product, Support, Engineering, and Implementation teams to resolve complex customer issues.
- Act as the Tier 2 escalation point for challenging customer situations and high-priority accounts.
- Mentor and assist Tier 1 Performance Strategists with strategy, troubleshooting, and account planning.
- Provide recommendations on CRM configuration, automation strategies, lead management processes, and dealership communication workflows.
- Maintain detailed account documentation, action plans, and follow-up items within CRM.
- Identify expansion opportunities and partner with the sales team when appropriate.
- Help reduce churn by driving measurable dealership performance improvements and delivering exceptional customer experiences.
Qualifications Required
- Minimum 5 years of automotive retail experience in dealership operations.
- Previous experience in dealership management, BDC leadership, Internet Sales Management, Fixed Operations, Variable Operations.
- Strong understanding of automotive CRM processes and lead lifecycle management.
- Ability to analyze dealership performance data and convert findings into actionable recommendations.
- Experience working directly with dealership leadership and executive teams.
- Excellent presentation, consulting, and communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple high-priority accounts simultaneously.
- Experience conducting virtual meetings, coaching sessions, and performance reviews.
- Comfortable handling escalated customer situations with professionalism and urgency.
Preferred
- Experience working for an automotive technology, CRM, AI, or SaaS company.
- Deep familiarity with dealership platforms including:
- VinSolutions
- CDK CRM (formerly eLead)
- DealerSocket
- Tekion
- Reynolds & Reynolds
- Experience supporting enterprise or multi-store dealer groups.
- Experience implementing dealership process improvements.
- Understanding of AI-powered customer engagement, automation, texting platforms, or conversational AI.
- Previous experience mentoring or leading customer success or performance teams.
