The Wichita Public Library has an immediate opening for an innovative, dynamic, and enthusiastic person to join our team as an adult nonfiction materials selector. This position will be part of the Collection Development team at the Advanced Learning Library in Wichita’s Delano neighborhood.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to working with the public and providing an in depth and well-rounded nonfiction print and digital collection to meet the diverse needs of our community. This position will assist and oversee maintenance of all adult nonfiction collections system wide. Candidates must have strong reader’s advisory skills and be prepared to provide education on best practices to staff and direct reader’s advisory service to customers. Candidates should have outstanding communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, strong research capabilities, experience managing budgets, and competency with technologies including personal computer applications and devices. This position provides direct reference service to customers one evening a week and on rotating weekends.
This is an exempt position. Below is a typical work schedule. The successful candidate will demonstrate flexibility should schedule changes be needed to meet the demands of the workgroup.

Workdays and Hours:
Exempt position with a typical work schedule:

Monday, Wednesday–Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Tuesday: 11:15 a.m. – 8:15 p.m.

Second Saturday of each month: 9:15 a.m. – 6:15 p.m., followed by one full day off during the following week.

Second Sunday of each month: 12:45 p.m. – 5:15 p.m., followed by one half day off during the following week.
Anticipated starting salary: $61,184 to $84,984 (based on experience and qualifications).

Required Experience and Training

Graduation from college with a master's degree in library science.

A valid Driver’s License.

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.
Preferred Experience and Training

Two (2) years of professional public library experience selecting print and digital materials for an adult nonfiction collection, evaluating and maintaining library collections using circulation data, collection analysis, and community needs, providing adult reference and readers' advisory services, and utilizing an integrated library system (ILS), online research databases, and electronic library resources.

Two (2) years of professional public library experience managing or developing adult nonfiction collections.
Starting pay for current City employees will be determined by City of Wichita policy or applicable bargaining unit agreement.
