About the TEACUP Preemie Program®
Founded in 2008, the TEACUP Preemie Program provides comprehensive support to families with infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), addressing the emotional, mental, and practical challenges of a NICU stay. The program was originally created to serve families of premature infants, who remain the vast majority of families served, and has since expanded to support any family with an infant in the NICU, recognizing that a NICU stay can be overwhelming regardless of gestational age. TEACUP receives referrals from seven local hospitals, including four Level III NICUs, and serves approximately 71 families each year across Palm Beach County. Services — all offered free of charge — include one-on-one parent guidance, peer support groups, mental health screenings, lactation support, breast pump lending, resource referrals, and advocacy, with services available in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole to ensure equitable access for families from diverse backgrounds. At its core, TEACUP is focused on reducing isolation, promoting parental mental health, and equipping families with the confidence and tools to care for their medically vulnerable babies — during and after their hospital stay.
