Job purpose
The Community Center at Visitation, a ministry of Catholic Charities of Philadelphia, serves as a
beacon of hope in Kensington by providing opportunities for nourishment, education, recreation
and personal growth.
We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and mission-driven professional to accompany
individuals, youth, and families facing poverty, food insecurity, housing instability,
unemployment, and related social challenges. As the Bilingual Family Support Coordinator, you
will play a vital role in helping community members access resources, build stability, strength life
skills, and work toward greater self-sufficiency.
Through direct services, case management, advocacy, and community-based support, the
coordinator will uphold the dignity of each person while advancing the mission of Catholic
Charities and the principles of Catholic Social Teachings
Duties and responsibilities
Outreach & Engagement
- Conduct bilingual (Spanish/English) community outreach in the neighborhoods
surrounding the Community Center at Visitation, particularly in the Kensington area, to
build trust, assess client needs, and connect youth, individuals, and families to
appropriate services and resources in alignment with Catholic values.
- Participate in community outreach efforts, including parish and school events, resource
fairs, and other local organizations.
Case Management & Client Support
- Provide case management services to individuals, youth and families in crisis, including
intake assessments, service planning, and follow-up.
- Maintain consistent communication with clients to monitor progress and adjust service
plans as needed.
- Connect individuals, youth, and families to community resources, including food
assistance, housing support, employment services, educational programs, and mental
health resources.
- Advocate for clients to help ensure access to services, benefits, and supportive programs.
Individual and Family Development
- Develop individualized case plans that respect each client’s strengths, needs, and cultural
background.
- Support youth and families in setting and achieving goals related to education,
employment, family stability, and personal growth.
- Facilitate or assist with workshops and group activities on topics such as life skills, job
readiness, parenting, mental wellness, and financial literacy.
Collaboration & Community
- Collaborate with internal staff and external service providers to coordinate care and
referrals.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community agencies, schools, parishes, and
service organizations.
Compliance & Professional Standards
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential case notes and client records in compliance
with organizational policies and applicable regulations.
- Comply with mandatory reporting laws and all relevant professional and ethical
standards.
- Participate in supervision, team meetings, and ongoing training or professional
development.
General Support
- Provide additional support and assistance as requested by the Executive Director to
support the mission and operations of the Community Center.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, psychology, education or related field
preferred.
- Relevant professional, community, ministry, or live experience may be considered in lieu
of formal educational requirements.
- Experience in case management, outreach, family support, community engagement,
education, ministry, and related human service work preferred.
- Experience serving vulnerable or underserved populations preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships with diverse individuals and families.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) required.
- Appreciation for Catholic social teaching and willingness to support the mission of
Catholic Charities of Philadelphia while serving families of all backgrounds with dignity
and respect.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with community partners
and team members.
- Passion for community-based service and a desire to make a meaningful difference in the
lives of individuals, youth and families.
- Successful completion of required background checks and clearances.
Working conditions
- Standing or sitting for long periods, depending on the day and CCV day’s schedule.
- Regular interaction with guests or community members.
- Noise level depending on the CCV day’s schedule.
- Fieldwork may be required.
- Some evening or weekend hours may be required.
- Must have reliable transportation and valid driver’s license.
Physical requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit;
use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tool or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb
stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up
to 25 lbs.
