Port Angeles High School is a comprehensive high school serving approximately 800 students in
grades 9–12. Located in the heart of the Olympic Peninsula, our school is committed to
preparing every student for success in college, career, and life. We pride ourselves on fostering a
culture of belonging, academic excellence, student engagement, and strong partnerships with
families and the community.

The Port Angeles School District is seeking an experienced, student-centered educational leader
to serve as Interim High School Principal for the 2026–27 school year.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Interim High School Principal serves as the instructional and operational leader of Port
Angeles High School and is responsible for ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning
environment where students and staff can thrive. The successful candidate will provide steady
leadership while supporting student achievement, staff development, school improvement
efforts, and positive relationships across the school community.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience leading Professional Learning
Communities (PLCs), implementing and strengthening Multi-Tiered Systems of Support
(MTSS), and fostering positive school culture through proactive behavioral supports and student-
centered practices. The interim principal will work collaboratively with staff to continue
strengthening instructional systems, intervention supports, and student engagement while
maintaining stability and momentum during the transition year.

INTERIM LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY

This interim assignment provides an opportunity for an experienced educational leader to guide
Port Angeles High School through the 2026–27 school year while supporting the continued
success of students, staff, and school improvement efforts. The district is seeking a leader who
can provide stability, maintain momentum on existing initiatives, strengthen relationships across
the school community, and position the school for a seamless transition to its next long-term
principal.

Success in this role will be measured by the leader's ability to foster a positive school culture,
support student achievement and well-being, ensure effective school operations, and build trust
with students, staff, families, and community partners.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Instructional Leadership
• Lead and support high-quality teaching and learning practices that promote success for all

students.

Lead and support a strong Professional Learning Community (PLC) process focused on

essential standards, common formative assessments, data analysis, and responsive
instruction.

Use multiple sources of student performance data to inform decision-making and

continuous improvement efforts.

Monitor and support intervention systems designed to improve student achievement,

attendance, engagement, and graduation outcomes.

Support staff through coaching, feedback, evaluation, and professional learning

opportunities.

Collaborate with teachers and staff to strengthen instructional practices and student

outcomes.

School Culture and Climate
• Lead and support a positive behavioral framework that promotes student belonging,

engagement, accountability, and success.

Collaborate with staff to strengthen school-wide systems and practices that support

safety, positive student behavior and reduce exclusionary discipline.

Foster a culture where all students are known, valued, and connected to school. Build a

culture of trust, mutual respect, accountability, and high expectations.

Promote student engagement, leadership, and participation in school activities and

programs.

Leadership and Management
• Provide effective supervision and evaluation of certificated and classified staff.

Oversee school operations, staffing, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
Support the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and retention of high-quality staff.
Ensure compliance with district policies, state and federal regulations, and collective

bargaining agreements.

Family and Community Engagement
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with students, families, staff, and community

partners.

Communicate openly, transparently, and effectively with all stakeholders.
Encourage meaningful family involvement in student learning and school activities.
Represent the school positively within the community and district.

Collaborative Leadership
• Demonstrate a commitment to shared leadership and collaborative decision-making.

Facilitate collaborative teams that use data to identify student needs and implement

targeted supports.

Partner with district leaders and staff to align school improvement efforts with district

strategic priorities and PLC/MTSS implementation goals.

Lead change thoughtfully and effectively while honoring the traditions and strengths of

the school community.

QUALIFICATIONS

Washington State Principal Certification required.
Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or related field.
Minimum of three years of successful administrative experience at the secondary level

preferred.

Successful experience as a teacher and instructional leader at the secondary level.
Demonstrated experience leading and supporting Professional Learning Communities

(PLCs).

Experience implementing and sustaining a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)

framework.

Experience leading school improvement efforts focused on academic achievement,

student engagement, attendance, and graduation outcomes.

Knowledge of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) or similar student-

centered behavior systems.

Experience facilitating collaborative teams and using student data to drive continuous

improvement.

Demonstrated success in improving student outcomes through data-informed leadership.
Experience supervising and evaluating staff.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships and lead through collaboration.
Commitment to equity, inclusion, and ensuring success for every student.

SALARY AND CONTRACT
Salary will be based on qualifications and experience, and will be commensurate with districts of
similar size and complexity.
Current compensation range: $142,287 - $155,523 (2025-2026 Schedule)
Contract Days: 260 day contract, with 222 contracted work days, 13 holidays and 25 vacation
days.
