Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Certified Medication Aide to provide high-quality medication management and patient care within assisted living, nursing homes, hospitals, and community settings. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of medical documentation, medication administration, and patient safety protocols. As a Certified Medication Aide, you will play a vital role in supporting residents’ health and well-being by ensuring accurate medication delivery while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
Duties
- Administer prescribed medications accurately to residents or patients in accordance with physician orders and facility policies.
- Monitor and record vital signs, patient responses, and medication effects to ensure optimal care.
- Assist with activities of daily living, including hygiene, mobility, and nutritional support tailored to individual needs.
- Maintain detailed medical records and documentation using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) or EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Observe and report any adverse reactions, changes in condition, or symptoms related to medication therapy or health status.
- Support residents with specialized needs such as Alzheimer’s care, dementia care, memory care, hospice care, or working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Follow HIPAA guidelines strictly to protect patient confidentiality and ensure compliance with privacy regulations.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and healthcare providers to coordinate comprehensive patient care plans.
- Assist in training new staff members on medication procedures and documentation standards.
Skills
- Proven experience in assisted living, nursing home, hospital settings, or home & community care environments.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, and medication administration protocols.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner for accurate medical documentation.
- Ability to perform clinical tasks including tube feeding, catheter care, and vital signs measurement confidently.
- Excellent attention to detail to ensure precise medication dispensing and record-keeping.
- Effective communication skills for working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and residents’ families.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to maintain confidentiality and privacy of patient information.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or special needs is highly desirable.
