Position Summary: The Packaging Line Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of packaging equipment within a food manufacturing environment. This role ensures optimal line performance, minimizes downtime, and maintains compliance with food safety and quality standards.
Description of Duties:
- Perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs on packaging equipment, including fillers, labelers, sealers, conveyors, and palletizers
- Set up packaging lines for production runs, including changeovers and adjustments for different product specifications
- Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues to maintain continuous line operation
- Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities for efficiency improvement
- Perform preventive maintenance according to established schedules
- Ensure all equipment operates in compliance with food safety (e.g., HACCP), quality, and sanitation standards
- Document maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance data accurately
- Collaborate with production, quality, and sanitation teams to meet production goals
- Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout protocols, and company policies
- Assist with installation and commissioning of new equipment as needed

Essential Skills and Experience:

High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred
- 2+ years of mechanical maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment (food or beverage preferred)

Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in packaging machinery
- Working knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and basic electrical systems
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and schematics
- Familiarity with preventative maintenance systems (CMMS preferred)

Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Good communication skills
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality
Preferred Skills and Experience:

Experience with automated packaging systems or robotics
- Knowledge of GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices)

Certification in industrial maintenance or related field
