American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele Clinical Decision Unit position in Shelby, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and Epic proficiency for a 13-week night shift contract.

Clinical Decision Unit in a 241-bed, Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center hospital

24-bed unit with an average daily census of 24
-
Patient population includes a variety of diagnoses including cardiac, respiratory, and neurological conditions in a fast-paced observation setting

RN-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6, with potential surge ratios up to 1:7-8; CNA support at 1:12

Procedures and skills include cardiac rhythm interpretation, non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone), IV starts, blood product administration, wound care, and care of patients with tubes and drains

EMR: Epic — minimum 6 months of experience required

IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; patient monitoring: Masimo (all rooms)

Telemetry monitoring is managed remotely with a tele tech

Night shift, 12-hour shifts (1900–0700), 36 hours per week

Every other weekend rotation required

Low census call possible; night shift staff may be called back until 3:00 AM

Floating required within Region 3, which includes Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division facilities (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) — candidates must be willing to float or should not apply

Schedule is posted in 6-week cycles

Active NC or Compact RN license required

Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required

Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
-
Minimum 6 months of Epic EMR experience required

Proficiency with cardiac rhythm interpretation and non-titrating cardiac drips

General Med/Surg Tele skillset required, including IV starts, blood product administration, wound care, and care of patients with tubes and drains
-
Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
-
Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible

Departmental orientation includes NEO plus 2 days of unit-specific orientation
-
Unit support includes CNA, charge nurse (may carry a patient assignment), phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, Respiratory Therapy (24/7), Hospitalist (on-site days, virtual evenings/overnight), and Intensivist (24/7)

Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays

Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays
