THE OPPORTUNITY
SRE Engineering is seeking an experienced Hazmat/Environmental Inspector (NICET III) to support environmental compliance monitoring on a landmark NYCDOT bridge project Brooklyn. This project involves full bridge reconstruction within a sensitive urban parkland environment with active oversight from NYCDEP, NYCDPR, NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC), and NYSDEC. The role requires a detail-oriented professional with demonstrated experience in lead paint removal compliance, surface soil sampling, and multi-agency environmental coordination.
QUALIFICATIONS
- NICET Level III certification required
- ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician Grade I certification required
- Minimum 7 years of bridge construction inspection experience
- NYCDOT or NYSDOT bridge reconstruction or rehabilitation project experience required
- Experience with historic bridge preservation, landmark structures, or LPC-governed projects strongly preferred
- Familiarity with MURK (Manual of Uniform Record Keeping) diary and daily report standards required
- Experience supporting shop drawing review and submittal log tracking preferred
- Knowledge of NYCDOT Quality Assurance Manual for the Bridge Rehabilitation Program preferred
- Strong written communication skills and ability to produce clear, accurate field documentation
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions on an active urban construction site
- NYS PE license a plus but not required at this title level
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform daily field inspection of bridge reconstruction activities for conformance with contract plans, specifications, and construction standards
- Prepare Inspector's Daily Work Reports (MURK 1) and support the Engineer's Daily Contract Diary (MURK 2)
- Monitor and document contractor operations including excavation, concrete placement, steel erection, and masonry work
- Assist with field measurements, quantity computations, and sketches for payment documentation
- Support shop drawing review tracking and submittal log maintenance
- Monitor salvage, repair, and reinstallation of historically significant architectural elements including stone masonry, cast-iron parapets, and decorative components in coordination with LPC requirements
- Coordinate with Resident Engineer on field conditions, change order documentation, and contractor compliance issues
- Assist with maintenance and protection of traffic (MPT) observations and diary entries
- Maintain accurate electronic and hard copy project records throughout construction
