The Licensed Vocational Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing care for patients under supervision of the physician or mid-level provider. Assists physicians and staff in coordinating patient care. Functions as primary liaison between patients; staff; and physicians.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education
- Completion of Vocational Nursing Program or Associates Degree in Nursing.
Minimum Work Experience
- One-year License Vocational Nurse experience.
Required Licenses/Certifications
- Current state vocational nurse license.
- Current CPR certificate.
Required Skills; Knowledge; and Abilities
- Knowledge of medical terminology; anatomy; physiology; and pathophysiology. Familiarity with health care systems; regulations; policies; and functions. Understanding of documentation standards.
- Knowledge of equipment; supplies; and materials needed for medical treatment. Understanding of basic laboratory procedures including preparation and screening.
- Knowledge of infectious disease management and control and safety standards.
- Knowledge of policies and procedures related to infection control; environmental safety and patient confidentiality.
- Knowledge of medical chart reporting/records.
- Knowledge of management and organizational theory to supervise the business practices including principles of employee development to train; delegate and mentor staff. Knowledge of medications and other pharmacological agents used in a hospital-based clinic setting.
- Knowledge in diseases and disease processes.
- Skill in appropriate assessment and assistance techniques.
- Skill in appropriate use of universal precautions; safe workplace; and confidentiality methods.
- Skill in health information management by appropriately charting patient data.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member with physicians and other staff.
