The Law Office of David A. Fernandez, P.C. is a Houston-based law firm focused on consumer debt defense and bankruptcy representation. We handle promissory note, repossession, credit card lawsuits, and Chapter 7 and 13 bankruptcy matters, working to secure take nothing judgments, dismissals, favorable settlements, and strong outcomes for our clients. Our practice is fast-paced, litigation-driven, and centered on real courtroom work.
Position Overview
We are seeking an Associate Attorney with civil litigation experience who is comfortable appearing in court regularly and handling cases through resolution, including bench trials. This is a hands-on role for an attorney who wants consistent courtroom exposure and practical litigation experience.
Attorneys in this position typically appear in court 2–3 times per week in Justice of the Peace Courts, County Civil Courts, and District Courts throughout the Houston area. Many hearings and trials are conducted via Zoom, depending on the court.
This is a hybrid position. New hires are expected to work primarily in-office during the first 1–2 months for training and onboarding. After that period, a more flexible remote schedule is available based on performance and firm needs.
The firm utilizes a strong paralegal support structure, allowing attorneys to focus on legal strategy, reviewing pleadings, and preparing for hearings and trials, rather than administrative tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent clients in hearings, contested matters, and bench trials
- Appear in court regularly (approximately 2–3 times per week, in-person and via Zoom)
- Review pleadings, motions, and case files prepared by support staff
- Prepare for hearings and trials, including legal analysis and strategy
- Provide legal guidance on case direction and resolution
- Negotiate with opposing counsel and creditors as needed
- Maintain communication with clients regarding case progress and strategy
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Licensed and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas
- 3–5 years of civil litigation experience
- Courtroom experience required (hearings, contested motions, or trials)
- Experience in consumer law and/or Chapter 7 bankruptcy is a plus
- Strong, research, and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines

Compensation & Benefits
- $125,000 – $135,000 salary, depending on experience
