Do you love helping people feel seen, known, and encouraged?
Are you someone who naturally thinks about the little things that make people feel welcomed, valued, and cared for?
Do you enjoy bringing people together, creating spaces where relationships grow, and helping every detail come together with excellence?
The Forgotten Initiative is looking for a Community Specialist to help foster a culture where the volunteer Advocates who carry out our mission feel connected, cared for, and part of something bigger than themselves.
This isn’t simply an event planning role.
We’re looking for someone who sees logistics as opportunities to care. Someone who enjoys creating meaningful gatherings, coordinating thoughtful expressions of encouragement, and bringing order to dozens of moving pieces so others can simply show up and experience community.
You’re the kind of person who naturally notices what others might miss. While others see logistics, you see opportunities to care. You think about whether registration feels effortless, whether the room encourages conversation, and how each touchpoint throughout an experience helps people feel welcomed, valued, and connected because you know exceptional experiences are created through hundreds of thoughtful details.
At TFI, we help churches support foster care caseworkers across America. We believe our Advocates are able to care for others best when they are deeply connected to one another. Every gathering, handwritten note, virtual community event, and Advocate Retreat is an opportunity to strengthen that community and remind our volunteer leaders that they are seen, supported, and never serving alone.
You might thrive in this role if you:
- Love bringing people together.
- Naturally notice the details that shape someone’s experience.
- Love building a good checklist, timeline, or project plan—and seeing it through.
- Have a “make it happen” mindset—you take ownership and keep projects moving.
- Think three steps ahead and anticipate what others will need.
- Believe hospitality is one of the ways we love people well.
- Feel energized by meaningful work that serves others.
This role leads the planning and execution of Advocate community experiences, year-round Advocate care initiatives, and our annual Advocate Retreat—creating meaningful opportunities for volunteer leaders to feel connected, encouraged, and part of something bigger than themselves.
