American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PACU position at a Level 1 Trauma Center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and proficiency across multiple surgical specialties in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment.

PACU unit within a large, Level 1 Trauma Center hospital
-
Unit operates 24/7 and receives patients from all surgical specialties except open heart surgery
-
Patient population includes neuro, ortho, peripheral vascular, thoracic, urology, GYN, plastics, urology, peds, and intubated patients
-
High-acuity environment with an average daily census of 65–85 patients, with frequent critical care and neuro cases

ICU/PCU background preferred

Schedule is 3x12-hour shifts, 11:00 AM–11:30 PM
-
On-call requirement of 12–24 hours per 6-week schedule block
-
Holiday coverage required — candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays during their contract

Charting is performed in Cerner (experience required)

Floating within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital is required

Active IN or Compact RN license in hand (or fingerprint application submitted)

RN degree from a university accredited by ACEN or CCNE at the time of graduation

Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and PALS (AHA and RQI formats accepted)

Minimum 2 years of PACU experience required

Experience in a Level 1 Trauma Center required

Experience across multiple surgical specialties required (neuro, ortho, peripheral vascular, thoracic, urology, GYN, plastics, peds, and intubated patients)

Proficiency with Cerner EMR required

Comfort working in a large, fast-paced, high-acuity environment

SSN and DOB required for consideration

2 supervisor references required for consideration

Local candidates (Indiana residents) are accepted for this position at a reduced pay package

Former permanent or PRN employees of IU Health must have a 12-month break before being eligible to apply as a traveler

Current or past IU Health travelers who have accrued 12 months of travel employment within IU Health must take a consecutive break to reset eligibility: out-of-state residents require a 90-day break and in-state residents require a 180-day break
