Position Purpose:
Under the general supervision of the school principal, to implement lesson plans and assigned duties left by the classroom teacher. Substitute teachers may be called upon to fill a variety of instructional and/or supervisory duties at the elementary and/or secondary level on an “as needed” basis.
Essential Functions:

Reviews all lesson plans and assigned duties to be completed during the day.

Teaches the lesson(s) outlined and described in the lesson plan as prepared by the absent teacher.

Follows all district policies and procedures as outlined in the district’s substitute teacher handbook.

Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conductive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.

Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.

Maintains, as much as possible, the established routines and procedures of the school or classroom to which the substitute teacher is assigned.

Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.

Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.

Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

Coordinates with other professional staff members.

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Equipment:
Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Travel Requirements:
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.

Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.

Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.

Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff members.

Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.

Qualification Profile:

Certification:

Substitute teaching permit issued by the Nebraska Department of Education.

Nebraska Certification as an elementary, secondary, or special education teacher (preferred).

Education:
-
Minimum of 60 college hours from an accredited, post-secondaery institution.
-
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university (preferred).
-
Experience: Successful prior experience working with children (preferred).
