Financial Accountant
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Financial Accountant to join our growing team. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the financial health of our organization by ensuring accurate accounting records, supporting project financial management, and assisting with payroll and reporting functions.
The Financial Accountant works closely with the Controller, Project Managers, and company leadership to support the financial operations of a fast-paced electrical contracting business. This role utilizes BuildOps, QuickBooks Online, and other financial systems and software to maintain accurate and timely financial data.
Key Responsibilities
General Accounting
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaid expenses, and month-end adjustments.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Complete daily bank reconciliations for management review.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
- Support annual financial audits by preparing schedules and supporting documentation.
- Maintain accurate financial records while ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
Job Cost Accounting & Project Support
- Monitor and maintain accurate job cost data for labor, materials, subcontractors, and equipment within BuildOps.
- Review job cost reports and collaborate with Project Managers to investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Assist with project setup, budgets, and cost code structures.
- Track committed costs and support continuous improvement initiatives as required.
Payroll & Human Resources Support
- Review and approve timesheet information daily after PM review.
- Review weekly payroll for accuracy prior to processing.
- Verify labor allocations and employee timecards submitted through BuildOps.
- Prepare certified payroll reports and Davis-Bacon reporting when required.
- Review and reconcile Paid Time Off (PTO) requests.
- Track employee reimbursements and benefit eligibility.
- Assist with onboarding communications related to payroll deductions and benefit withholdings.
- Maintain records related to leave of absence requests, workers’ compensation claims, and other HR-related administrative functions.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Assist with cash flow monitoring and forecasting.
- Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
- Prepare financial reports and supporting schedules for management.
- Assist leadership with financial analysis and reporting as needed.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
Required
- Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- 2+ years of accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of general accounting principles.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multiple departments.
- Familiarity with various AI models, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, etc.
Preferred
- Construction, electrical contracting, or project-based accounting experience.
- Knowledge of job costing, Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
- Experience with BuildOps, QuickBooks Online, or other ERP Systems
- Experience with certified payroll and prevailing wage reporting.
Pay: From $70,000.00 per year
