Cutting Room Supervisor
Bespoke & Made-to-Measure Apparel Manufacturing | Chicago, IL
We're looking for a hands-on Cutting Room Supervisor to lead our cutting floor from pattern to bundle. This role sits at the center of
production quality — overseeing digital pattern work, automated and hand-cutting operations, and the team that brings every garment
to life with precision and care. If you understand fabric, fit, and people equally well, we want to hear from you.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As Cutting Room Supervisor, you'll oversee the full lifecycle of the cutting process — from pattern creation and grading in CAD
software, through fabric inspection and layout, to precision cutting and bundling for sewing. You'll manage a team that includes
pattern makers, cutting machine operators, and skilled cutters, ensuring every piece leaves the cutting room accurate, efficient, and
ready for construction. Whether it's optimizing a marker for fabric yield or hand-matching a plaid across a seam, you set the standard
for quality on the floor.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Pattern & CAD Oversight
- Direct the creation, alteration, and finalization of digital patterns using Gerber CAD software.
- Oversee grading and marker-making to prepare patterns across sizes while maximizing fabric efficiency.
- Translate sketches and technical specifications into accurate, production-ready patterns.
Cutting Operations
- Supervise automated cutting machine operation, including loading cloth, verifying measurements, and quality-checking cut parts against work
orders.
- Oversee precision hand-shearing and single- or low-ply cutting for bespoke and made-to-measure garments.
- Coordinate the flow of cut and bundled components to sewing and canvas-shaping workrooms.
Quality & Fabric Management
- Inspect and align fabrics — including fine wools, cashmere, and silk — to hand-match plaids, stripes, and patterns across seams.
- Enforce rigorous pre-cut fabric inspection for slubs, shade variation, and weave distortion.
- Maintain zero-tolerance standards for pattern misalignment or fabric flaws.
Team Leadership
- Manage, train, and mentor pattern makers, cutting machine operators, and cutting floor staff.
- Partner with designers, sample makers, and master tailors to ensure fit and construction quality.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-conscious cutting floor, including tools and equipment.
WHAT YOU BRING
- 5+ years of cutting room or production experience in apparel manufacturing, ideally including some exposure to luxury, bespoke, or made-to measure tailoring.
- Proficiency with Gerber CAD software for pattern making, grading, and marking.
- Strong knowledge of the garment development process, from design through production.
- Sharp eye for detail — accuracy in pattern work, fabric alignment, and quality checks.
- Comfort leading a team while staying hands-on with the work.
- Ability to read specs and production tickets with 100% accuracy.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs.
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or apparel-related training a plus.
WHY JOIN US
You'll be part of a team where craftsmanship still matters — where every cut is deliberate and every garment is treated as a finished
piece, not a commodity. We invest in the people who keep that standard alive.
