Job Title: Field Service Technician III
Employment Type: Full-time
Salary: $30-$35 per hour
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6am to 5pm. Some overtime will be available
Position Overview
Under the supervision of the Shop Supervisor or Service Manager, this experienced level position is responsible for aiding in the repairing, rebuilding and servicing of heavy construction and lift truck equipment in-accordance with recommendations and specifications published by equipment manufacturers. In this position, thinking/decision making requirements are essential. The candidate must be able to perform complex assignments (e.g. changing oil, removing components, diagnostics, etc.), with minimal support from higher-level service technicians for resolution. This position will require at a minimum of two Master Technician certifications.
Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities
- Qualified candidates must have great communication and customer service skills along with basic computer skills.
- Work with dispatch, service operations, sales and the technical support team to make sure great customer service is provided to both our internal and our external customers.
- Removes and installs guards, tracks, roller frames, cabs, masts, forks, and other external parts.
- Removes and installs engines, transmissions, steering clutches, drive axles and all components.
- Cleans parts with petroleum-based solvents, parts bead blasting machines or similar cleaning methods.
- Proficiency in diagnosing malfunctions, failures and other problems, and in evaluating worn and used parts. Orders new and rebuilt parts from parts books and shop parts personnel.
- Completes assigned service reports needed to document parts and labor expenses and repair methodology.
- Assembles new machines and attachments.
- Assists in direction and mentorship of less-experienced Service Technicians when assigned.
- Performs miscellaneous housekeeping duties including sweeping and mopping floors, painting shelves, racks and aisle markers, etc.
- Candidate must be proficient at working independently to complete complex repairs at customers’ locations.
- Operates and tests equipment after repair and makes limited machine adjustments.
- Hold and maintain two Master Technician certifications and continue training toward Triple Master certification.
Minimum Education, Skills, and Professionalism
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Must be able to read and write and have basic math and mechanical skills.
- A two-year vocational education certificate or equivalent knowledge is preferred 48-60 months experience in the industry.
- Proven ability to think critically and solve complex problems.
- Strong analytical skills demonstrated ability to pay close attention to details, excellent accuracy and completeness, and adherence to strict deadlines.
- Higher level of computer literacy with ability to send and receive emails, navigate and complete mobile service orders, navigate digital service/parts manuals and schematics. Ability to correctly use and understand equipment diagnostic software.
- Ability to communicate in English (orally and in writing). Diplomacy skills to deal effectively and professionally with obstacles that arise when making contact with visitors, customers, outside vendors and company contacts.
- Must be reliable, trustworthy, and an advocate for Darr Equipment.
- Master the correct use of overhead hoists and cranes, as well as lift trucks, to lift and manoeuvre equipment and components.
