Overview
We are seeking an experienced Immigration Court Paralegal to assist attorneys representing clients in removal proceedings before the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR). The ideal candidate will have experience with immigration court procedures, hearing preparation, evidence management, and defensive forms of relief. This role requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under strict court deadlines.
Primary Responsibilities
Assist attorneys with removal defense cases before Immigration Court
- Prepare and file documents with EOIR, including:
- Updated Form I-589 applications
- Motions to Continue
- Motions to Change Venue
- Motions to Recalendar
- Motions to Terminate
- Appeals-related support documentation
- Prepare court filing packets and exhibits
- Organize and index evidence in accordance with Immigration Court Practice Manual requirements
- Track hearing dates, filing deadlines, and court notices
- Coordinate witness preparation and document collection
- Prepare hearing binders and attorney trial notebooks
- Review records and identify missing evidence
- Coordinate certified translations and expert reports
- Maintain detailed case management records
- Communicate with clients regarding court requirements and deadlines
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on immigration court (defensive) experience — REQUIRED
- Bilingual English/Spanish — REQUIRED; you will communicate directly with Spanish-speaking clients and court contacts
- Proven track record managing a high-volume immigration caseload under strict deadlines
- High sense of urgency — you understand that missed deadlines in immigration court have life-altering consequences
- Knowledge of EOIR procedures and filing requirements
- Experience preparing evidence packets, hearing exhibits, and court filing packets
- Strong writing and organizational skills
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
Preferred Experience
- Asylum and withholding of removal
- Cancellation of removal
- Adjustment of status in removal proceedings
- Bond hearings
- Appeals before the Board of Immigration Appeals
- Federal court support experience (preferred but not required)
- This role uses Docketwise the leading immigration case management platform. Experience with Docketwise is a plus, and training is provided.
Pay: $50,000.00 - $68,000.00 per year
