Weekend Assistant Supervisor – Friday-Monday

Role Overview
The Assistant Supervisor supports the daily operations, culture, and youth programming of Safe Station, a 24/7 youth shelter serving young people experiencing crisis or housing instability. This role combines youth engagement leadership with assistant supervisory responsibilities, helping ensure trauma-informed care, consistent shelter routines, high-quality programming, staff support, compliance with licensing and funding expectations, and a safe, welcoming, and empowering environment for youth.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
1. Shelter Culture, Operations & Environment Leadership
- Assist the Safe Station Supervisor in overseeing weekend shelter operations and part-time staff, including routines, admissions, supervision coverage, and program expectations.
- Champion a trauma-informed, strengths-based environment that promotes dignity, trust, belonging, and youth empowerment.
- Model positive communication, empathy, and relationship-building with youth, families, staff, and community partners.
- Maintain a calm, consistent, and predictable shelter atmosphere that supports emotional regulation, safety, and well-being.
- Collaborate with the Safe Station Supervisor to align routines, policies, compliance requirements, and daily practices with agency values, licensing standards, and trauma-responsive principles.
2. Youth Engagement & Structured Programming
- Develop, administer, and document youth engagement programs that promote skill-building, recreation, education, stabilization, and personal growth.
- Plan and facilitate regularly scheduled house meetings to review daily schedules and expectations, encourage youth voice and feedback, and promote mutual respect and community norms.
- Collect and analyze youth feedback, house meeting themes, and parent/youth exit surveys to identify trends and implement improvements to shelter programming and operations.
- Implement experiential and life-skills-based programming, including daily routines, constructive activities, supervised recreation, education activities, and developmentally appropriate programming for youth not in traditional schooling.
- Ensure all activities and meetings are age-appropriate, culturally responsive, voluntary, and trauma-informed.
3. Community-Based Activities, Life Skills & Experiential Learning
- Plan structured group and individual activities, including approved off-site outings, outdoor engagement, life-skills activities, and community-based youth development opportunities.
- Ensure all activities comply with supervision ratios, safety procedures, documentation requirements, licensing standards, food handling guidelines, and shelter safety procedures.
- Promote responsibility, routine, cooperative skill-building, and youth participation while maintaining safety and supervision standards.
4. Staff Support, Training & Assistant Supervision
- Assist in onboarding, training, and supporting staff, emphasizing trauma-informed, culturally competent, legally compliant, and youth-centered care practices.
- Assist in the training and evaluation process for new hires and communicate staff coaching opportunities or performance concerns to shelter leadership as appropriate.
- Assist with supervisory duties in the Safe Station Supervisor’s absence in coordination with the Chief Program Officer.
- Support staff in accurate incident reporting, documentation, follow-up, crisis response, and daily program implementation.
5. Case Management, Aftercare & Youth Support
- Provides case management support regarding youth engagement, strengths, needs, participation, and progress toward case plan goals.
- Support youth with skill-based tasks connected to case plan goals.
- Assist in the development of a structured education program.
- Monitors completion of aftercare, including required follow-ups with previous residents at 30, 60, and 90 days.
6. Shopping & Program Logistics
- Conduct approved shopping and procurement for youth activities, outings, and programming needs.
- Develop and maintain inventory tracking and documentation in accordance with agency procedures.
- Complete grocery shopping and meal planning to support youth engagement, incorporating youth input into food choices and creating a home-like, inclusive environment, while meeting compliance standards.
7. Direct Care, Safety, Compliance & Documentation
- Support staff in managing youth crises using verbal de-escalation, restorative practices, relational safety strategies, and trauma-informed approaches.
- Provide direct supervision of youth during activities, house meetings, outings, admissions, and coverage shifts in compliance with licensing ratios.
- Enforce shelter rules consistently and respectfully, using redirection and relationship-based approaches.
- Maintain and review program records, client files, activity logs, house meeting summaries, HMIS entries, participation records, incident reports, client statistics, and other documentation required by funding sources.
- Assist with program and quality audits, monitor visits, licensing reviews, and interdepartmental collaboration to ensure consistency and compliance across program areas.
8. On-Call, Scheduling & Shift Coverage
- Participate in the on-call rotation to provide after-hours leadership and crisis response, including approximately 26 weeks per year as assigned.
- Assist in scheduling and ensuring all shifts are covered, including direct-care shift coverage during call-offs, emergencies, or staffing shortages to maintain licensed supervision levels.
- Communicate promptly with shelter leadership regarding coverage, concerns, incidents, and observations during on-call or coverage shifts.
Qualifications & Compliance Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working directly with youth in residential, shelter, crisis, or community-based settings; leadership experience preferred.
- Experience with DCS youth and/or youth experiencing homelessness preferred.
- Skilled in crisis prevention, de-escalation, conflict resolution, group facilitation, and positive youth development.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, child abuse and neglect issues, runaway/homeless youth populations, and area social service agencies.
- Ability to comply with FYSB BCP service requirements, funding expectations, and state licensing standards for supervision and safety.
- Basic computer skills, Office 365 proficiency, and HMIS experience preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Flexibility to work within a 24/7 licensed shelter environment, including evenings, weekends, outings, travel within the county, shift coverage, and on-call responsibilities.

Pay/Salary: $43,000 - $46,000
Reports To: Safe Station Supervisor
Core Hours: Full-time, 40 hours weekly- flexible to meet 24/7 program needs.
Travel: Will travel to various sites in the county; YSB provides a vehicle as needed.
