Position title: Medical Director
Location: Springfield, IL (Sangamon County) — hybrid (remote + occasional on‑site)
Time: 4–8 hours/week (flexible)
Compensation: $175/hour (contract) — negotiable based on experience
Position summary
The Medical Director provides medical oversight and clinical consultation for Widespread Whole Life Recovery, an outpatient, non‑MAT drug & alcohol treatment clinic serving ~20–30 adult clients. This part‑time consultant role oversees medical protocols, advises clinical staff on medical/psychiatric issues, participates in QA/chart review, and coordinates referrals to external medical providers.
Key responsibilities
- Provide medical oversight of intake medical screening, withdrawal risk assessment, infectious‑disease screening/referral, and overdose prevention practices (including naloxone policies).
- Develop, review, and approve medical policies, standing orders (non‑MAT), screening tools, and clinical protocols.
- Conduct or supervise medical assessments and periodic medical reviews as clinically indicated (in‑person or telehealth).
- Offer timely consultation to clinicians, case managers, nurses, and peers on medical/psychiatric issues and medication interactions.
- Participate in case reviews, clinical supervision meetings, QA/QI activities, and periodic chart reviews.
- Coordinate referrals and warm handoffs with PCPs, hospitals, specialists, and community resources; advise on medical escalation/ED transfers.
- Provide periodic on‑site presence per agreed schedule and be available for remote consultation during designated hours.
- Maintain documentation required for credentialing and regulatory compliance; support payer credentialing as needed.
- Ensure clinic compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2 protections, and applicable Illinois medical practice rules.
- Provide or approve staff training on medical topics relevant to outpatient SUD care.
Minimum qualifications
- MD or DO preferred. Illinois‑licensed APRN/NP or PA with appropriate collaborative authority may be considered.
- Active, unrestricted Illinois medical or advanced‑practice license in good standing.
- Minimum 3 years of clinical experience treating adults with substance‑use disorders and/or co‑occurring psychiatric conditions preferred.
- Board certification in Addiction Medicine, Psychiatry, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine preferred.
- Current BLS required. DEA registration desirable if prescribing duties are anticipated.
- Professional liability insurance required prior to start.
- Knowledge of HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, ASAM/level‑of‑care concepts, and outpatient behavioral‑health practices.
- Strong communication and collaborative skills; ability to work with multidisciplinary teams and community partners.
Preferred experience
- Prior experience as a Medical Director or in medical leadership in outpatient behavioral‑health/SUD settings.
- Familiarity with DUI evaluation/reporting requirements and court/DMV liaison processes.
- Experience with QA/QI processes, chart review, and policy development.
Contract terms & obligations
- Contract hourly at $175/hour; invoiced monthly. Mileage or pre‑approved travel expenses reimbursed per policy.
- Provide proof of current malpractice insurance, Illinois license, and any required registrations before contracting.
- Background check and credential verification required.
- Initial contract term: 12 months with renewal subject to mutual agreement.
Pay: $31,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
