Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Technician to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will assist in providing exceptional patient care within a growing optometry clinic. This role involves supporting clinical operations, managing patient preliminary testing, and ensuring accurate medical records while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations. Our technicians play a vital role in facilitating smooth clinic workflows and enhancing patient experiences through compassionate service and technical expertise.
Duties
- Assist with patient triage (phone calls, walk-in questions, eye problems)
- Measure and record vital signs such as blood pressure
- Perform preliminary eye tests and assessments using specialized equipment
- Support optometrists during examinations by preparing patients and equipment
- Maintain aseptic technique during clinical procedures to ensure patient safety and infection control
- Manage electronic medical records (EMR systems) platforms accurately and efficiently
- Educate patients on optical products, contact lens options, and proper eye care practices
- Patient referrals, submitting electronic prescriptions, ordering contact lens trials and supply.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality
- Maintain organized medical records in accordance with clinic policies
Experience
- Previous experience in medical office settings, particularly in ophthalmology or optometry clinics preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology related to the eye, and ophthalmic procedures
- Familiarity with EMR systems is highly desirable
- Experience with retail sales, retail math, and front desk operations is a plus
- Strong understanding of HIPAA compliance and medical records management
- Background in pediatrics or clinic experience involving pediatric and elderly patient populations is advantageous
- Prior exposure to medical coding and billing processes related to eye care services is beneficial

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
