Job Summary
Join our dynamic Wildland Fire Hand Crew and become a vital part of our wildfire management team dedicated to protecting forests, communities, and natural resources. As a crew member, you will engage in hands-on firefighting operations, environmental protection efforts, and emergency response activities. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to develop specialized skills in fire suppression, hazardous materials response, and incident management while working in challenging outdoor environments. Your role will be essential in implementing fire safety protocols and supporting forest fire management strategies to mitigate wildfire risks effectively.
Duties
- Participate actively in wildfire suppression efforts using specialized firefighting equipment and techniques
- Operate fire apparatus such as brush trucks, water tenders, and other firefighting vehicles safely and efficiently
- Conduct hazard assessments and implement fire safety measures in forested and wildland areas
- Assist in hazardous materials incident response following HAZMAT protocols to ensure environmental and personnel safety
- Support emergency medical responses by providing first aid, CPR, and basic life support as needed during incidents or accidents
- Engage in confined space rescue operations and aircraft rescue firefighting (ARFF) activities when required
- Follow incident command procedures during emergency responses, ensuring clear communication and coordination with team members and first responders
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE), self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), and respiratory protection gear appropriately at all times to maintain safety standards
Experience
- Prior experience or training in emergency medical services such as EMT or first aid certification is highly desirable
- Knowledge of HAZMAT protocols, fire suppression techniques, and firefighting specialized equipment operation is essential
- Demonstrated ability to participate effectively in emergency response calls as a firefighter or rescue team member
- Experience with fire apparatus operation, forest fire management practices, or environmental protection hazardous materials response is preferred
- Mechanical knowledge, heavy lifting capability, and familiarity with NFPA standards for firefighting safety are advantageous
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) or experience operating large vehicles is a plus
- Ability to work outdoors in physically demanding conditions for extended periods while maintaining focus on safety and teamwork
