This role is ideal for seasoned RNs with strong IV skills, PACU or acute care experience, and a background supporting patients through pre-op, recovery, and discharge in an outpatient procedural setting.

Position Summary
As a Pre-Op / PACU RN, you will provide comprehensive perioperative nursing care for patients undergoing GI procedures such as colonoscopy and endoscopy. We’re looking for a clinically strong RN who is comfortable with pre-op assessment, IV starts, post-anesthesia recovery, discharge teaching, and rapid recognition of changes in patient condition.
Key Responsibilities Pre-Operative Care
- Complete pre-op nursing assessments including medical history, allergies, medications, and NPO status
- Verify patient identity, consents, and procedural readiness
- Start IVs and administer pre-operative medications as ordered
- Educate patients and families on procedure expectations, anesthesia, and recovery process
- Collaborate with providers, anesthesia, and procedural staff to ensure safe patient readiness
- Identify and escalate abnormal findings or safety concerns before procedure start
PACU / Recovery Responsibilities
- Provide immediate post-anesthesia recovery care following GI procedures
- Monitor airway, breathing, circulation, vital signs, pain level, and neurological status
- Manage pain, nausea, vomiting, and other post-procedure symptoms per protocol
- Recognize and respond to complications such as respiratory changes, hypotension, bleeding, or delayed recovery
- Administer medications, oxygen therapy, and other interventions as ordered
- Support patient stabilization and progression to discharge criteria
- Communicate clearly with anesthesia providers, physicians, and clinical team regarding patient status
- Complete timely and accurate EMR documentation
Discharge Responsibilities
- Ensure patients meet discharge criteria for ambulatory surgery center release
- Provide verbal and written discharge instructions to patients and caregivers
- Reinforce post-procedure care, activity restrictions, symptom monitoring, and follow-up guidance
- Coordinate safe discharge and confirm transportation arrangements
Required Qualifications
- Active and current Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Current BLS certification
- Current ACLS certification, or ability to obtain within required timeframe
- Minimum 4-5 years of RN experience in acute care, ambulatory surgery, hospital, or perioperative settings
- Strong IV insertion and medication administration skills
- Experience with EMR documentation
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced outpatient surgical environment
Required Experience
- Recent experience in Pre-Op, PACU, ambulatory surgery center, or hospital-based perioperative nursing
- Experience recovering patients after anesthesia or conscious sedation
- Experience supporting same-day surgery or procedural patients from intake through discharge
- Strong clinical judgment and comfort escalating changes in patient condition
Preferred Background
- Ambulatory surgery center experience
- PACU experience
- Acute care or hospital RN experience
- Emergency Department, Level 1 Trauma, perioperative, or surgical services background
- Experience in gastroenterology, endoscopy, orthopedics, ENT, urology, pain management, or other procedural specialties
