The Macon County Public Library is seeking a flexible, creative, and energetic candidate to fill a part-time Library Assistant 1 position in the Youth Services Department. The ideal candidate for the Library Assistant will be a team player who can provide library services to meet the needs of the public. If you thrive in a rapidly changing environment while maintaining a friendly and helpful attitude, this may be the job for you.
QUALIFICATIONS required for the Library Assistant 1 include a High School Diploma or GED. At least one year of customer service experience is required. One year of library experience working with children is preferred. The successful candidate should have a commitment to quality customer service with excellent communication skills. Strong technology skills and experience working with a variety of social media tools are a must.
RESPONSIBILITIES for the Library Assistant 1 include providing reference service for both children and adults, working the youth services desk, assisting patrons in locating materials and using the library catalog, providing readers' advisory service for children, shelving library materials and keeping shelves in order in youth services area. The Library Assistant 1 participates in the planning and delivery of library activities and events for children, including activities in the community. The Library Assistant 1 works cooperatively with staff throughout Fontana Regional Library to plan, implement, and evaluate long and short-term goals and objectives.
