We are a fast-growing transportation and logistics company delivering customized, technology-driven supply chain solutions nationwide. Our operations are expanding across multiple automation-enabled distribution centers, and we are seeking a Senior Industrial Engineer (Contract – 6 Months, with potential extension) to support ongoing implementation, optimization, and warehouse systems integration initiatives.
This role is ideal for an experienced industrial engineer who has worked in distribution environments with WMS/WCS systems, warehouse automation, and operational implementation projects.
- Location: Indiana (On-site/ Hybrid as required)
- Compensation: Up to $115,000 annualized equivalent (contract rate adjusted accordingly)
- Duration: 6-month contract with potential extension or conversion
The Senior Industrial Engineer will lead and support operational excellence initiatives across warehouse and distribution center operations, with a strong focus on systems-driven efficiency, automation performance, and WMS/WCS-enabled workflows.
Reporting to the Director of Implementations, this role partners closely with Operations, IT, Engineering, and Program Management to design, analyze, and improve end-to-end fulfillment processes in a 3PL fulfillment environment.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience supporting or implementing warehouse systems such as WMS and WCS (preferably Hy-Tek or comparable platforms), and understands how automation, material flow, and system logic intersect in a live warehouse environment.
Warehouse Systems & Automation (WMS/ WCS)
- Support configuration, optimization, and enhancement of WMS and WCS-driven warehouse processes
- Partner with IT and engineering teams on system integration, automation logic, and material flow orchestration
- Support testing, validation, and troubleshooting of warehouse control systems, automation equipment, and software workflows
- Assist in evaluating and improving conveyor systems, sortation, put walls, pick modules, and other automation subsystems
Process Engineering & Optimization
- Lead process mapping and value stream analysis across warehouse operations including:
- Inbound receiving & induction
- Picking, packing, and shipping
- Exception handling and rework flows
- Inventory accuracy and cycle counting
- Identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and failure points in operational workflows and system logic
- Develop and implement standard work, SOPs, and process controls aligned to automation capabilities
Continuous Improvement & Data Analytics
- Analyze operational data to drive improvements in:
- Throughput and productivity
- Labor efficiency and utilization
- Order cycle time and service levels
- Inventory accuracy and shrink reduction
- Build and maintain KPI dashboards using tools such as Excel, Power BI, or equivalent platforms
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action initiatives for systemic operational issues
Implementation & Project Support
- Support warehouse implementation projects including new automation, client onboarding, and system upgrades
- Participate in user acceptance testing (UAT) for WMS/WCS enhancements and integrations
- Work cross-functionally to ensure successful deployment of operational and system changes with minimal disruption
- Support training and adoption of new processes and system functionality across operations teams
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Operations, IT, Engineering, Quality, and Program Management teams
- Translate operational requirements into system and process improvements
- Ensure alignment between warehouse execution, system behavior, and customer requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Systems Engineering, Operations Engineering, or related field
- 3-5+ years of industrial engineering or operations engineering experience (preferably in fulfillment, or manufacturing environments)
- Direct experience with WMS systems (required) and WCS or warehouse automation systems (strongly preferred)
- Experience working in high-volume warehouse or distribution center environments
- Strong understanding of material flow, warehouse layout, and fulfillment optimization
- Experience supporting system implementations, upgrades, or operational go-lives
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills
- Ability to work effectively across engineering, IT, and operations teams
- Strong communication skills with both technical and operational stakeholders
- Experience with warehouse automation systems (conveyors, sortation, pick/put systems, robotics)
- Lean Six Sigma / Kaizen / Continuous Improvement certification or experience
- Experience supporting UAT, SIT, or system integration testing
- Proficiency in data tools such as Power BI, Tableau, SQL, or advanced Excel modeling
- Strong understanding of fulfillment metrics such as UPH, SLA compliance, and throughput modeling
