Qualifications
Assistant candidates should be caring, dependable, and excited to work with children in a play-based learning environment. Preferred qualifications include:
Experience working with children in a childcare, school, camp, or similar setting.
Familiarity with NYS Child Day Care regulations, or willingness to learn and follow all required guidelines.
Experience working with diverse populations and a commitment to creating an inclusive environment.
An understanding of developmentally appropriate practices and the importance of play in children’s learning and growth.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
A positive, professional, and team-focused attitude.
Reliability, attention to detail, flexibility, energy, and a willingness to actively engage with children.
Physical capability to sit, stand, move throughout the program space, and lift up to 30 lbs. as needed.
Core Responsibilities
Child Supervision & Support
Help maintain a safe, nurturing, and welcoming environment where children feel supported, respected, and encouraged to participate.
Assist Group Leaders in supervising children during activities, transitions, snack, outdoor play, and other daily routines.
Engage with children through play-based, developmentally appropriate activities that support creativity, social skills, problem-solving, and emotional growth.
Support positive behavior guidance by using respectful language, redirection, encouragement, and program-approved strategies.
Maintain competent supervision at all times and communicate concerns to the Group Leader or Director as needed.
Program Support & Compliance
Follow all My Place policies, procedures, and NYS Child Day Care regulations.
Assist with daily routines, classroom organization, activity set-up, clean-up, and transitions.
Support accurate attendance, documentation, and communication practices as directed by the Group Leader or Director.
Help ensure the program environment remains clean, safe, organized, and engaging for children.
Family & Community Engagement
Communicate with families in a friendly, respectful, and professional manner during drop-off, pick-up, and other program interactions.
Build positive relationships with children and families while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
Uphold confidentiality in accordance with My Place policies.
Professionalism & Growth
Participate in required trainings, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities.
Remain open to feedback and coaching from Group Leaders, Directors, and leadership staff.
Demonstrate reliability, teamwork, flexibility, and a willingness to support the needs of the program.
Represent My Place positively in all interactions with children, families, staff, and the community.
Additional Responsibilities
Assist with answering phones, greeting visitors, and providing excellent customer service as needed.
Support special activities, events, and program-wide routines.
Complete other duties as assigned by the Group Leader, Director, or leadership team.
