Overview:
Assistant Barn Manager / Assistant Trainer — North Salem, NY
We are looking for a highly motivated, responsible individual with management experience who is looking to grow their career in the equestrian world.
We are a busy mainly dressage, but some eventing facility with approximately 20 horses in training at any given time, ranging from trail horses to Grand Prix dressage horses. We’re looking for someone who can thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoys working with both horses and people, and is willing to jump in wherever needed.
The ideal candidate:
- Has previous management or leadership experience and is comfortable communicating with a team
- Has strong client-facing and communication skills
- Is organized, reliable, and able to keep a busy day running smoothly.
- Can think on their feet and “go with the flow” when plans inevitably change
- Has a strong work ethic and a good eye for quality horse care
- Wants to continue learning and growing within the equestrian industry
Responsibilities include:
- Managing staff and helping with morning barn duties
- Overseeing the daily care and needs of approximately 25 horses
- Managing the daily schedule and coordinating with veterinarians, farriers, bodyworkers, and other professionals
- Communicating with clients and helping keep everyone on the same page
- Assisting with riding and teaching approximately 3 days per week, with additional riding/teaching opportunities when I am away
- Helping with the general day-to-day operations of the farm and jumping in wherever needed(would include helping with some stalls)
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to become an integral part of a busy training program and continue developing their skills in both horse management and riding/training. We are looking for someone interested in a long-term position who wants to grow with our current team.
Competitive salary + housing available. We could potentially discuss bringing a personal horse for the right candidate.
Experience with dressage (minimum of first level) is a plus, but the right attitude, work ethic, management ability, and willingness to learn are just as important.
