The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) is searching to create an ELIGIBILITY LIST ONLY for a position within the Substation Department of Power & Way. The position of Substation Maintainer 648 is responsible for the routine and emergency maintenance of our Traction Power Substations for the Blue, Green, and Red Lines of our Rapid Transit System. We utilize electricity from local utility suppliers to provide DC traction power for our Rapid Transit System. Detailed Description
Duties:

Reporting to the Supervisor of Traction Power and Lead Substation Maintainer, the Substation Maintainer 648 tests, cleans, adjusts, and/or repairs all rectifier and feeder breakers, cleans and inspects rectifiers and AC switchgear relays and switches.
- This position responds to emergencies and troubleshoots substation equipment.
- Responsible for performing weekly visual inspections and weekly tests of all substation equipment, buildings, and grounds.
- Services lightning arrestors located on poles outside of the substation approximately 20-40 feet high.
- This position maintains cables in manholes when necessary (some manholes must be operated on while they have live electric current going through them) and inspects the roof of Substations as needed.
- Performs maintenance of substation buildings and grounds.
- Tests, cleans, and/or repairs worn parts on air compressor units and exhaust fans, checks and cleans 48-volt and 125-volt battery systems, and instructs Grade 4 Substation Maintainers in all of the above duties.
- Performs additional related duties.
Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements:

Applicants must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Applicants must have completed technical high school or high school and post-high school courses in electrical theory, both AC and DC.
- Applicants must have two (2) years of experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical equipment, including feeder breakers, rectifiers, AC switchgear, relays, and switches.
- Applicants must have a valid Ohio Drivers License with no more than four (4) points within the last three (3) years.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time. The employee is frequently required to bend, stoop, climb, reach with hands and arms, handle or feel, see with normal visual acuity, talk, speak and hear. The employee is occasionally required to lift materials up to 50 lbs. The employee is regularly required to monitor a video display terminal.
Mental Demands: Reading, watching, studying, observing, and focused listening. Concentrated attention to detail for prolonged periods of time. Auditing, inspecting, tabulating data, proofreading, analyzing, and evaluating.
Additional Information: The performance of these duties may be required at any time of the day or night, any day or night of the week. The position is a bargaining unit position. The position is also safety sensitive and subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Examination Information: Candidates selected to participate in the hiring process will be notified of the exact time and place of the examination. The examination process will consist of three parts: a written examination, a performance assessment, and a record evaluation (for internal candidates only). Candidates must attain a minimum composite score of 70% to move forward in the process.
Weights for a final score will be assigned as follows for external candidates: Written 30%, Performance 70%.
Weights for a final score will be assigned as follows for internal candidates: Written 30%, Performance 55%, Record Evaluation 15%.
Internal candidates must meet all record evaluation criteria to gain 15% weight. Records evaluation information includes a review of the following:

- 2 or more AWOL or absence control suspensions

5 or more misses (regardless if they are active or not active)

Drug or alcohol suspension
