Job Location: Augusta, ME
Contract Windows: Full-Time, Seasonal (June 7 – August 6, 2026)
A Fully Funded Summer Escape: Leave the sweltering metropolitan heat behind for a rewarding, two-month residential contract in the scenic lake country of Northern Wisconsin. This travel assignment includes comprehensive round-trip transit coverage, private climate-controlled housing, and zero out-of-pocket living expenses.
About the Summer Program
Join the clinical team at a highly respected, high-energy lakeside youth academy hosting 200 campers each summer for waterfront activities, team sports, and outdoor expeditions. Our modern, multidisciplinary Health Center is directed by certified Nurse Practitioners who emphasize a collaborative, community-first approach to medicine. Rather than being isolated in a traditional clinic, our staff nurses are highly visible, deeply respected pillars of a close-knit, safety-oriented summer community.
Perks, Compensation & Living Arrangements
Weekly Pay Rate: $1,000 – $1,500 per week, distributed weekly (final rate is dependent upon your specific LPN/RN license type and pediatric background).
Transit Coverage: Complete round-trip travel expenses are fully reimbursed and coordinated by the camp administration.
All-Inclusive On-Site Living: Private, air-conditioned accommodations are provided alongside a premium daily dining program covering all meals at no cost to you.
Recreational Balance: Enjoy built-in daily rest periods, full access to pristine waterfront and campus amenities, and one complete, consecutive 24-hour day off every single week.
Core Clinical Scope
Operating similarly to a specialized school health clinic within a residential academy, this role balances everyday youth triage with a highly focused clinical objective: serving as the primary medical anchor for campers navigating insulin-dependent diabetes.
Targeted Diabetes Management: Direct daily blood glucose monitoring, calculate exact carbohydrate-to-insulin ratios, and oversee automated insulin delivery systems, pumps, and continuous glucose monitors (CGMs).
General Pediatric Triage: Diagnose, treat, and document routine childhood illnesses, minor physical injuries, and health trends across the camp populace.
First Aid & Emergency Tactics: Provide swift, clear-headed first aid and secondary assessment for athletic or water-based accidents.
Medication Administration: Maintain highly precise physical and digital records while orchestrating the timely distribution of daily camper prescriptions.
Trip Pack Preparation: Assemble specialized, portable medical kits (stocked with fast-acting glucose, glucagon, and emergency field prescriptions) for off-site wilderness excursions.
Interpersonal Communication: Deliver transparent, professional, and comforting health updates to camp leadership, clinical peers, and parents.
Prerequisites
Active, unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with valid Wisconsin licensure or an active multi-state Compact License.
A minimum of one year of professional nursing experience heavily focused on pediatrics, school nursing, or youth diabetes tracking.
Current, verifiable CPR, AED, and First Aid credentials.
Total availability to live on-site at the campus for the complete duration of the season (June 7 – August 6, 2026).
Proven capability to make independent clinical triage judgments and manage blood-sugar stabilization in an active outdoor environment.
Preferred Attributes
Hands-on familiarity with modern diabetes technology (including Dexcom, Omnipod, and Tandem systems) or a formal CDCES background.
Prior experience treating acute sports injuries, heat-related illnesses, or waterfront safety incidents.
An approachable, patient, and energetic personality who genuinely enjoys supporting and mentoring children and adolescents.
