THE POSITION
GreenerU seeks a motivated Assistant Superintendent who is ready to take the next step in their construction career. Working under the guidance of experienced Construction Managers and senior field leaders, this individual will help coordinate day-to-day construction activities on complex renovation projects in occupied colleges, universities, public schools, and other institutional facilities.
Our projects include deep energy retrofits, roofing, window replacement, HVAC and heat pump installations, building controls, and other capital improvements that require careful planning and coordination while facilities remain operational or operate on compressed summer schedules.
This position is designed as a career development opportunity. Successful candidates will receive mentoring from experienced Construction Managers and will have the opportunity to progress into a Construction Manager role while leading increasingly complex institutional and decarbonization projects.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES1. On-site leadership and coordination
- Assist the Construction Manager or Project Manager with day-to-day field operations from mobilization through closeout.
- Coordinate subcontractors and daily work activities to support safe and efficient project execution.
- Participate in daily site walks to monitor progress and identify safety, quality, or schedule concerns.
- Help facilitate daily huddles and subcontractor coordination meetings.
- Maintain an organized, professional, and secure jobsite.
2. Safety management
- Promote GreenerU's commitment to jobsite safety and OSHA compliance.
- Assist in implementing site-specific safety plans and job hazard analyses.
- Participate in toolbox talks and routine safety inspections.
- Help ensure subcontractors maintain safe work practices and appropriate PPE.
- Coordinate with campus personnel during shutdowns and work in occupied facilities.
3. Schedule and logistics
- Help implement the project schedule by coordinating daily activities and short-term look-ahead planning.
- Coordinate deliveries, staging areas, and site logistics.
- Identify field issues that could affect schedule and communicate them early.
- Support utility shutdowns and system cutovers alongside project leadership.
4. Quality control and technical oversight
- Review drawings and specifications to understand project requirements.
- Inspect work in progress and notify project leadership of quality concerns.
- Support commissioning activities and system start-up.
- Assist in maintaining field redlines and as-built documentation.
5. Documentation and communication
- Maintain accurate daily reports documenting site activities, manpower, weather, deliveries, and significant events.
- Assist with RFIs, field documentation, and change management.
- Build positive working relationships with clients, subcontractors, and campus stakeholders.
- Communicate field observations clearly with Construction Managers, Project Managers, and engineers.
6. Collaboration with project and construction management
- Work closely with Construction Managers, Project Managers, engineers, and experienced superintendents to develop field leadership skills.
- Participate in project planning and constructability discussions.
- Learn strategies for sequencing work in occupied campuses and active educational environments.
- Take increasing responsibility for portions of projects as experience grows.
QUALIFICATIONSRequired
- 2-5 years of commercial construction experience as an Assistant Superintendent, Foreman, Lead Carpenter, Field Engineer, or similar field leadership role.
- Experience working on commercial, institutional, healthcare, higher education, K-12, or public building renovation projects.
- Basic understanding of building systems, including envelope, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work.
- Ability to read construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Willingness to learn and take on increasing responsibility.
- Experience using Microsoft 365 and familiarity with Procore or similar construction management software.
Preferred
- Experience working in occupied buildings.
- Experience on summer school renovation projects.
- Experience with roofing, windows, HVAC, controls, or energy retrofit work.
- OSHA 30 certification (or willingness to obtain shortly after hire).
- Trade background in carpentry, mechanical, electrical, or roofing.
Pay: $70,000.00 - $79,999.00 per year
