Job Purpose and Scope
The Selling Business Manager is responsible for helping the store achieve its sales and profit goals by leading and developing a high-performing sales team while delivering exceptional customer service through Dillard’s 5 Star Selling & Service Model. This role is responsible for driving sales performance, maintaining visual presentation standards, developing clientele, and creating a customer-focused selling culture within the assigned area.
The Selling Business Manager leads by example through personal selling, coaching, and motivating associates to achieve both individual and departmental goals. This position partners closely with Store Management, associates, and vendor representatives to ensure consistent execution of company initiatives, promotions, and events.
Essential Job Functions
- Drive sales, gross margin, and customer service results within the assigned area.
- Lead selling associates through coaching, training, and daily development focused on Dillard’s 5 Star Selling & Service Model.
- Maintain a strong selling culture through effective customer engagement and No Boundaries Selling techniques.
- Lead by example through personal selling and achieving individual sales goals.
- Develop and maintain a strong clientele base through Clientele@Dillard’s (C@D).
- Assign daily tasks and direct associates regarding selling techniques, merchandising, recovery, and operational standards.
- Execute corporate promotions, special events, and local store events.
- Maintain corporate visual presentation standards and merchandising execution.
- Recruit, train, coach, motivate, and retain quality associates.
- Conduct Touch Base conversations, performance reviews, and ongoing coaching with associates.
- Participate in hiring, scheduling, performance management, and associate development.
- Recommend and administer corrective action in partnership with Store Management.
- Build strong working relationships with vendor representatives, management, and associates.
- Manage schedules within payroll budgets and business needs.
- Promote Dillard’s both within the store and through community involvement and outside events.
- Balance selling responsibilities with leadership and coaching opportunities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by Store Management.
Selling Expectations
Selling Business Managers are expected to lead by example through active customer engagement and personal selling.
- 80% of the role should focus on selling and customer interaction.
- 20% of the role should focus on leadership, coaching, and operational responsibilities.
- Personal selling performance contributes to the overall success of the department and may impact compensation opportunities.
Job Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior retail selling, customer service, and leadership experience required.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to motivate, coach, and develop associates.
- Outstanding customer service skills with the ability to build lasting client relationships.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and work with urgency in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Demonstrates sound business judgment and professionalism.
- Computer proficiency required.
- Fashion-focused with the ability to maintain a polished and professional appearance.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and results-oriented.
- Excellent attendance and reliability required.
Physical Requirements
- Regular attendance required, including flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, up to 8 hours per day.
- Ability to lift and move merchandise up to 15 pounds regularly.
- Ability to bend, stoop, squat, stretch, and reach while stocking and merchandising.
- Ability to operate a computer terminal and perform repetitive hand motions.
- Requires effective verbal communication and visual acuity for customer interaction and merchandising execution.
- Must maintain a level of personal presentation and hygiene consistent with a customer focused retail environment.
