We are looking for a reliable, caring, and energetic Cook/Floater to join our child care center team. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys preparing healthy, child-friendly meals while also supporting classrooms and helping create a safe, nurturing environment throughout the center.
As our Cook/Floater, you'll play an important role in children's daily experiences by providing nutritious meals that meet CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) guidelines while assisting staff as needed to ensure smooth center operations.
ResponsibilitiesKitchen & Meal Preparation
- Prepare and serve nutritious breakfasts, lunches, and snacks according to approved menus.
- Plan weekly menus that meet CACFP, USDA, and state licensing nutritional requirements.
- Follow standardized recipes and portion sizes to ensure compliance with CACFP meal pattern requirements.
- Maintain accurate CACFP meal counts, production records, menus, and other required documentation.
- Accommodate food allergies, dietary restrictions, and physician-directed meal modifications.
- Ensure all food is prepared, stored, and served in accordance with food safety and sanitation regulations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen at all times.
- Monitor food inventory, order supplies, and minimize food waste while staying within budget.
- Inspect deliveries for quality and proper storage.
- Maintain kitchen equipment and report maintenance needs promptly.
Floater Responsibilities
- Assist in classrooms as needed throughout the day.
- Support teachers with supervision, learning activities, meal service, and classroom routines.
- Help maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for children.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, and fellow team members.
- Follow all licensing regulations and center policies.
Qualifications
- Experience preparing meals in a child care center, school, commercial kitchen, or restaurant preferred.
- Knowledge of CACFP meal patterns, USDA nutrition guidelines, food safety, and sanitation practices is preferred (training may be provided).
- Experience with menu planning and inventory management.
- Strong organizational, multitasking, and time-management skills.
- Dependable, flexible, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Comfortable working around young children and supporting classrooms when needed.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and stand for extended periods.
- Must successfully pass all required criminal background checks and meet state licensing requirements.
