About The Proper Palm
The Proper Palm LLC operates The Proper Palm Cupboard & Island Provisions, a boutique island
bakery and provisions market serving Pine Island, North Captiva, Useppa Island and surrounding
barrier islands. Founded by a Culinary Institute of America graduate with hospitality leadership
experience, the company specializes in artisan bakery items, handcrafted prepared meals, curated
retail provisions, and elevated guest experiences.
Position Summary
This position supports bakery production, culinary preparation, packaging, labeling, merchandising,
guest service, POS operations, online ordering, guest communications, and island delivery
logistics.
Essential Job Functions
Prepare ingredients; produce breads, pastries, desserts and prepared foods; package and label
products; operate commercial bakery equipment; merchandise displays; assist guests; operate
POS systems; respond to email, Google Voice and online ordering inquiries; manage order flow;
prepare island delivery orders; clean and sanitize work areas; and follow all company food safety
and hospitality standards.
Onboarding & Training
All new associates complete structured one-on-one onboarding with the Owner & Founder and
Co-Owner. A required 14-day paid training program includes culinary production, food safety, guest
service, POS systems, online ordering, merchandising, island logistics, ferry procedures, and a
guided familiarization tour of North Captiva Island and the surrounding service areas. Full
availability is required during the scheduled 14-day paid training period.
Uniform & Professional Appearance
Part-time associates receive two company-issued Proper Palm uniforms at the start of employment
and two additional uniforms after 90 days of successful employment. Uniforms must be clean,
wrinkle-free and worn during all scheduled shifts. Closed-toe, slip-resistant shoes are required.
Professional Grooming Standards
Associates are expected to maintain a polished hospitality appearance. Personal hygiene must be
exemplary. Hair must be clean, neatly maintained, restrained when required for food safety, and
kept in natural-looking professional colors. Fingernails must comply with food safety requirements.
Facial piercings are not permitted while on duty except conservative ear piercings. Visible tattoos
should be covered whenever reasonably possible. Associates are expected to represent The
Proper Palm with warmth, professionalism and attention to detail.Preferred Qualifications
Hospitality experience preferred. Culinary, bakery, pastry, hotel, resort or luxury retail experience
preferred. Culinary or Hospitality education or current enrollment is preferred. Experience with POS
and online ordering systems is preferred.
Certifications
ServSafe Food Handler certification preferred. If not currently certified, certification must be
obtained within the first 90 days of employment at company expense.
Technology & Communications
A company email account may be issued for business use. Associates are expected to use
company email, POS systems, online ordering platforms, Google Voice, and other business
technology solely for authorized company business while on duty.
Employment Conditions
Employment with The Proper Palm LLC is part-time, non-exempt, and at-will under Florida law.
Employment may be contingent upon successful completion of a background check, any required
pre-employment drug screening, verification of work authorization, and compliance with company
policies. This document is not an employment contract and duties may change based on business
needs.
