Job Title
SCADA Engineer – Full-time
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced SCADA Engineer to support utility-scale solar PV, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), and power generation projects throughout the asset lifecycle. This role focuses on commissioning, controls integration, troubleshooting, RTAC programming, and SCADA support for operating and newly constructed facilities.
Working closely with project teams and clients, you will help commission new systems, resolve complex controls and communications issues, implement targeted system improvements, and support the reliable operation of renewable energy assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Commission, validate, and troubleshoot SCADA, DAS, RTAC, and plant control systems.
- Configure and modify SCADA systems, RTACs, and control logic to support project requirements.
- Validate equipment communications, telemetry, alarms, point mapping, and data integrity between field devices and plant control systems.
- Diagnose controls, communications, and data acquisition issues and perform root cause analysis.
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), startup, and commissioning activities.
- Develop commissioning reports, technical documentation, and test procedures.
- Collaborate with customers, EPCs, vendors, and internal engineering teams to resolve technical issues.
- Support technical proposals, engineering studies, and renewable energy consulting engagements.
- Travel to project sites as required.
Location
Day to day: Remote. Office attendance will be hybrid as needed when office location is established.
Travel: Expected to be up to 50% on average depending on business needs and availability of the employee. Weekend travel will be optional, and the typical travel duration will be 3-5 days. Travel is currently limited to within the United States, but international travel may become available and necessary in the future.
Type
Full-time, salary, with an expectation of 40 hours per week. Additional hours may be worked as business needs and as employee availability allows.
Work hours can be flexible, but it is expected that a specific weekly timeframe be designated for Sounder work, and that Sounder will be notified at least 2 weeks prior to a planned change to that timeframe. Unplanned changes, such as illness or family emergencies will be expected from time to time, and notification to Sounder should be as early as is practical for the employee.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience with industrial controls, SCADA, or automation systems.
- Experience with utility-scale solar, BESS, power generation, or industrial control systems.
- Experience with SCADA platforms such as Ignition, AVEVA/Wonderware, FactoryTalk, or similar.
- Experience with RTACs, protective relays, or industrial PLC-based control systems.
- Knowledge of industrial communications protocols including DNP3, Modbus TCP, and OPC.
- Strong troubleshooting, commissioning, and root cause analysis skills.
- Willingness to travel.
Preferred
- Experience with DAS commissioning and validation.
- Experience with SEL RTACs and relay configuration.
- Familiarity with Power Plant Controllers (PPCs) and renewable energy controls.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one.
